We are looking into an alternative coolent for our vmc machines. Is anyone familier with a uni-max lubrication system that sprays a fine mist of vegetable based cutting lubricant eliminating the need for flooding? Seems hard to believe but have read articles with positive results. I am wondering if any of you are using such a system and what are some of the pros and cons.

I've used it in the past with some good results, especially with insert cutters but prefer flood coolant for a couple reasons. Firstly, I couldn't see how it would help drilling because the drill is in the hole 90 percent of the time. Another reason is that it was kinda hard on the compressor when blowing chips around. And the biggest reason was when the hose(s) got knocked around so did all my cooling capabilities. I figure at least with flood coolant, if you hose enough onto the part, at least some will find its way onto the cutting tool.

I will be curious to see what other people have thought of this

In the sixty's we used to spray Kerosean with air,. The intent-- was to put a consistant film on the tool, it worked great . We did get a big(((BIG))) cloud of this misty mixture everyday. In the sixty's and ealy seventy's no-one realy noticed, but today the results from the shop help might be a little cloudy.
