Importing MC7

Is there a way to import MC7 files into X3?

I just need the geometry. My files contains also toolpaths but I think that after 10 years are not important any more. I just need the geometry.

I think you need to open and save it in MC9 first and then open it in X3. Try your reseller they should be able to help.

I'm pretty sure you can change the "files of type" to all files in the file open dialog and then select the V7 file and will open. No toolpath data will be there, but the geometry you are looking for should be there.

Thanks Benk, the problem is that I don´t have install MC9 any more. That what you wrote is correct. I will kontakt to my dealer thanks

The ONLY thing you can do is open it with MC9 and save it as MC9 (or .igs), this has been covered a few times.

Some save their old computers when upgrading to newer 64 bit systems just for this reason.

Must be a V7 thing. I can open V8 files with X5.

Here at work we deal with MC7 files all the time and yeah X will give you an error if you try to open it direct, you have to convert it to MC9 then open it in X. Works wonderfully and the toolpath also remains there since MC9 can read them.

If you still have MC7 on a computer you could save it as another file type like iges or step or xt and open it with MCX

I deal with this on almost a daily basis. We can buy converters for all kinds of file types, wonder if there is a reason a "converter" for old mastercam files hasn't been created...

I just checked... we have 22,167 files on the server in the .GE3 folder. I am the only 1 of 6 engineers that can't access the files without asking for help .

Maybe I'll rig up a box just for this reason (mine is 64 bit so I can't run 9)

you can run v9 on a 64bit with "vmware" virtual machine

In Windows 7 64-bit,

 

Start > All Programs > Windows Virtual PC > Windows XP Mode

 

This will allow you to run a "session" of Windows XP. You can install Version 9 and run it in XP Mode.

 

Make sure you transfer all of the installation files to a folder on the XP Mode "C:" drive. This is a virtual drive that is created by XP Mode.
