Running contours with rotary axis on and set to 3 axis rotating about the x axis I cut a feature and when it retracts to go to the next location it seems as the Z and A axis are moving simultaneously creating a ramp looking gouge in my parts. How can I get it to retract in Z before rotating A to go to next location?

TIA

Sometimes it can be the bug

Because Mc do not shows actual movements of tool and machine

It always moves tool around part

Even backplot will show it

verify can show it too

Sometimes both

Sometimes verify OK and backplot scrappy.

In such situation I read nc code

Simple way to produce it is to drill 2 holes 180 degrees on the cylinder

The actual movements will be raise tool and turn A

In the backplot you may see tool raises and moves through the part.

Now verify results are unpredictable it can show or not show it

Ok, next thing. Can you post the line that moves/retracts it? Is it posting Z and other moves or are they on separate lines? What control?

Some "dogleg", some controls will do the Z first, then the rest. Maybe check your retract and clearance number to make sure they're incremental or absolute, sometimes I'll switch the way i do things for 4th axis stuff and forget to check those.

Also, what toolpath?

I'm working a part using 5X curve toolpaths on a 4 axis VMC.

abd I'm having a tough time getting clean retracts.

Reference Points do not work at all

I've used mpmaster posts for years, but I'm getting better results with a stock mpfan post

and a saftey zone
