Looking for a serious 3/4" insert mill

We do small parts and most of the metal removal is done with a 3/4 2 fl. insert mill. I have one that uses APXT 1035PDSR inserts but there has to be a better setup. Has anyone actually used a cutter with those inserts and compared it to anything?

 

Perhaps insert grade recommendations also, we either do aluminum or CRS most of the time.

Does it have to be an insert mill? have you tried the Blizzard from OSG for Aluminum? Those are beasts.

 

Sandvik makes some pretty good insert cutters for steel.

We run Seco insert mills here in steels mostly but they move right along.... I know they have inserts for aluminum too. My local Seco Rep is very helpful too.

For steel and Stainless use an AJX from Mitsubishi.

That's heavy duty, noticed no flush... think they are blowing air through hole in the the middle? Or do real men not use flush?

 

Sometimes on the vids I see sub notes that the lack of flood was for the show, do you flood yours?

Yes I flood coolant. It does not have a sharp (90deg) edge so you need to finish with another cutter.

I have one of those AJX cutters, and either I'm not using it correctly or it's a situational cutter because I can't get the inserts to last at all... so I don't use it anymore

They do not like interrupted cuts, they need to be engaged.

We use the AJX feedmills exclusively. We cut 15-5, 17-4, 420 Stainless, P20, H13 every day and the inserts last literally forever. Proper engagement, toolholder, and programming techniques make all the difference.
