looking for a new facemill

Recommended Posts

What do you guys use?

I'm looking to replace my 1-1/2" Dia Sandvik R390 facemill.

It will be cutting anything from 1018 to 4340 pre hardened to 304 Stainless.

Not wanting a high feed style, as I need a 90 degree corner cutting edge.

I've used the R390 for years, but it just seems like it's not very efficient when removing large amounts of material.. tend to go through inserts more than I think is acceptable.

I don't like using square shoulder for removing a large amount of material. I prefer something with a lead angle like the mits asx445 line.

We are running a part right now thats 2-1/2 x 7-3/4 x 74 15-5ph SS and we tried out the Seco Octomill facemill. Cuts real nice so long as you are engaged in material.
