threading boring bar

Recommended Posts

I resorted to Kennametal top notch holders for threading, I use them for threading and for slotting. I can't check the number because I'm home but I have done 8TPI with the inserts I have and I know there is one larger.

I know K seems to be a dirty word around here but it's all I use for slots and threads on the lathe. Now cutoff is a different story........

I'm not very proficient on tooling for lathe. I need a boring bar that can thread a 1 1/8" 7tpi thread. I looked all over but can find bars and inserts that can handle 8tpi or smaller. Or boring bars with minimum bore diameter is too large.

KENNAMETAL HEAVY METAL BAR L08RNER2 IS A .5 BAR R/H .730 MIN DIA. INSERT NT2L 7-20 TPI IN THE 5025 GRADE WORKS WELL
