Cutting a T Slot

I have not experienced cutting a lot of t slots and would like to know if there is a fast way to get this done.

The center slot is .790 wide and .875 deep. The T of the slot is 1.260 wide by .550 high.

I started with an onsite t cutter, specially ground to size, running it after I cut the slot .790 x .875 deep.

The T cutter speed was 125 and feed rate .2.Thenslot is 9.500 long. So takes almost an hour to run.

I wonder if there is tooling that can get this done faster. Dimensions are not critical.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Material? Seems slow. Are you getting vibration at higher speeds?

You could try a carbide insert T-Slot cutter.

I'd do a high speed slotting path to rough that out then a skim pass to clean up the cusps.

Material and machine info would help, coolant options also. the more info on your setup will help.

Unless you're doing a ton of them, just go with a cheaper brand.

If you're doing a lot of these, then I would steer toward Iscar or Sandvik.

if your swinging around any 90° corners make sure to NOT "round sharp corners" in MC parameters.

if your cutting with a high speed cutter I would go 50 sfm, that's 151 rpm and .003 per tooth that is 3.6 ipm. should cut like butter after you cut the center slot out.
