Entering a Pocket Via a Pre-Drilled Hole

Hello Community,

 

This is my first post in this forum.

 

I would like to pre-drill a pocket and then enter in that same hole with an endmill.

 

I understand that there is a "Ramp" and "Helical" option for entry.

In your chaining dialog, first select the drill point you used to do the pre-drilled hole. In your pocket toolpath, set the entry motion to "off"

Create a point where your drilled hole is. Select that point geometry along with your chain for the pocket.

or after you have all of your pockets programmed, use circle toolpaths>drill start holes and you will be able to pick the milling operation, and it will place points where your endmill starts in each pocket.

This is preferred over selecting the point, although if you want a prefered location then the first method is better. I use the drill start holes all the time, works great !

Very cool , did not know this drill start holes feature existed.

Question, to who and why is this "preferred" method?

becaue you're letting the pocket routine decide what the best entery point is.

as opposed to forcing the pocket routine to start where you want
