I am almost sure there is but is there a downloadable trial version of Mastercam? if so what all does it alow you to do compaired to a full version.

Not downloadable, but from your reseller you can get the home learning edition (HLE). As far as I know the only limitations on it are that you can not post process, and the files can not be opened in any other mastercam version.

Almost every Mastercam tutorial and handbook sold in the InHouse book store on this fourm includes

a copy of HLE... or you can ask your dealer and they'll probably give you one.

It is a fully functional copy of Mastercam but it cannot post.

It saves under a different file extension. HLE cannot open industial Mastercam files

and Mastercam canot open HLE files. I beleive a dealer sim can move HLE files either way.

I'm not sure, but I don't think HLE gets service packs or maintenance releases either.

I was told X6 can open EMCX-6 files and you can save the solids out as a parasolid.

Didn't you put an X6 HLE 2D high feed tutorial file on the FTP a few weeks back?

I was not able to open that in X6

Well, I sent in one of my assignments to Derek at eapprentice and asked him if there was a way to get the solids out to take to work so I could actually make the fixture. He sent me back a parasolid and said I could do that myself. I have yet to try it though?

You can't save out any file type other than EMCX. No solids, iges or dwg output, and thats understandable as you would have a basic CAM package for free. That's not going to happen. I'm currently working on a tutorial at home in the HLE and unfortunately I can't save the geo, so the file will have to be distributed as an EMCX.

 

X6 will not open EMCX files either. People would get the HLE, then start programming as if it were a ligit seat.

 

On the plus side. the HLE has all the functionality of regular MC, with the exception of the C-hooks. It also has it's own folders in My docs, separate from the regular MC folders. IMO, it works good.

 

Derek may have a dealers license. Trying it right now, under save as or save some, you get no option other than EMCX-6 in the menu.

Yes it is. I have learned a lot just having the extra time to play with it at home. I think it's great they are letting people use it for learning. Everyone should do that!

Gcode this is partially off. you can open MCx6 files for example and play . I just was a customers yesterday were I took my file and showed them on there computer in X6 HLE what I was doing and verified the part even with using Stock model works great . they will soon be upgrading.

 

Industrial sims cannot open Emcx files that are educational files. But Educations versions that are in collages can and will let you post the file and dealer sims of course.

 

And I sur that some know when you join any of our courses at Eappremtice you will have the option to download the latest HLE edition.
