Vericut users-holder assemblies

At least until X7 ;)

How and where do you create your tool assemblies?

Do you import this info from mastercam or do you have holders pre-defined/created in vericut and take it from there?

It can be done either way, but is one of those options more prevalent?

TIA

Here is what I want! I want to create a tool library for a machine and asign a tool holder to it and when I bring that tool into my file I want the tool holder to aready be there. But I also want the flexablity to replace this tool and holder assembly with one from another machine tool library! I hope X7 comes with some big changes in this area!!!

I just set up and define the holder in Vericut. I dont bother getting too carried away with the tool definition in Mastercam, because Mastercam has limited shank definition (I'm sure X7 is much improved, but only those lucky enough to be on th beta programme know if it is actually improved a lot).

In fact, we purchased the Mastercam to Vericut interface, but to be honest, I find I don't actually use it nowadays. I have built up a library of pre defined tools and holders (thats where it is worth spending the money on the Vericut STEP translator, as I can import STEP models of my holders directly into Vericut), and I use the "calculate minimum cutter extension" function to work out the minimum tool stick out in Vericut.

You can modify any of the existing holders in Mastercam or create your own, you can define every area if the holder and it is easy to do.

I am using X5 and X6.

Yes, but it is the cutter shank defnition that is the issue. Sorry, I I don't think my post was very clear.
