How do I get the tool to stay inside the containment boundary? I have tried compensating to inside, outside and center. No matter what I do the tool travels outside the containment and would cut into my part or the fixture. I want to use this toolpath but it is not cooperating at all!

That's the point of that toolpath, to start on the outside and work in. Try Opti-Area?

The Core toolpaths are all designed to cut from outside to to inside

 

Area paths are Inside boundary toolpaths

Ok, I want the core toolpath. But the area I need to keep my tool within is an area smaller than the outside area of the part. So when I pick the solid my tool tries to cut the entire part ignoring the boundary. Opti Area does not work.because it cuts from the inside out. The core roughing kind of works as it stays close to my containment. I guess I will just use that.

Try changing your motion>gap size retract option to "when avoiding a boundary"

Sometimes I have to set the minimum depth to -.001 or something below the surface of the solid to keep the tool inside the contianment.

Create draft surfaces from your boundry

Move them above your cutting levels

and add them to your selection

I will create a surface around the part that looks like a picture frame and select that as a drive surface. I will them move it above my depth limits so it will not be cut. Seems to work fairly well. Of course it is a complete waste of time to do all this crap when the containment boundary should just work. Why exactly do they call it a 'containment boundary' anyways... I have had fixtures that were gouged by tools violating my containment boundary (HST Hybrid) and it left me scratching my head.

It's more of a containment suggestion. LOL

For High Speed Core "containment boundary" is a misnomer. It actually functions to define the material boundary.

Been there. It really sucks when the tool leaves the containment and runs into the one and only locating pin on your fixture.
