Engraving using axis substitution

I've been trying to do some engraving on a test piece in our Hass mill with the rotary using axis substitution. Everything looks good in verify. I want to do the engraving on the top, rotate 180 degrees and do it again. The NC code repeats the engraving on the top. I've tried transform by toolplane, and various other means, all with the same results.

I did this many years ago at another shop, but I need some help with this now. The machine is a Haas VF5, Mastercam version X6, using the generic Haas 4 axis post.

When using transform to reposition an axis substitution tool path you need to use translate form point to point.

You need to know the arc segment length.

You can use a formula L = (θ × π/180) × r to find it.

Another method to find the length would be to draw the arc and break it at the desired location, then analyze the arc segment.

The axis that is being substituted would use the length of the arc segment, assuming you're rotating around X, you would input that value for the Y transform.

Here's another formula I found with the link to an online calculator.

Equation-1.jpg

where:

C is the central angle of the arc in degrees

R is the radius of the arc

π is Pi, approximately 3.142
