What is a .CAD file?

I have a file that I am trying to open, I don't have the software to open.

I am wondering if any of you guys can help?

Open it with a text editor. You'll usually see some plain english near the top of the file that may give a hint, or the actual name, of the software used to create it.

.CAD is a QuickCad file....

 

It was bought out by autocad but support stopped in 2004.

 

Try finding a copy and then saving it with DWG format...

 

You can buy it for 40 bucks on Amazon...

A former colleague of mine had QuickCad at home. It's quite old, going back close to 20 years, but he may have it installed on an old laptop or something. I just sent him a message.

My friend said that he doesn't have QuickCad installed anymore. He also mentioned that he had some .dwg files that he exported from QuickCad and Autocad wouldn't open them. YMMV.

Should be able to open it with a very old ACAD program...
