Is a G54 needed for every tool change?

Well that is kinda of a tricky question. Do you do long run times of say 12-14 hours without need of restart then no. If you want the ability to restart in the middle of a program then yes. If you are using more than one fixture offset then yes. If only using one tool then no. I dotn really think there is a right or wrong for this just a what works best for you application.

As crazy said, it can get tricky if you are not used to reading/editing code for mid program starts. It is SAFE to have it at all toolchanges. Say you are working with multiple fixtures. You break a tool and need to start back on the same fixture. You will need that specific fixture call for the part you want to restart at.

I think it is best just for operator goofs.

Well it is kinda like the rabbit and the hare. If you like to go very fqast and like ot have everything to your liking for speed then soemtimes depending on the machine it may involve another move for the fixture offset call. The turtle who is always seeing everything in front of them and want to be 100% sure everything is good then they dont mind they extra moves t omake it operator safe as well as machine safe, If cutting plastcis all the time tool breakage and restart dont really come into this but if doing nasty crazy off the wall work then it would. Every sitution is going to lend itself to what is best up to each person to apply the fit for the application based off of their needs and personal prference is all.
