SmartCAM Development and Support Reestablished

McKenzie River Software acquires rights to independently develop and support SmartCAM®

EUGENE, Ore. - McKenzie River Software, LLC (MRS) today announced an agreement with UGS PLM Solutions, the product lifecycle management (PLM) subsidiary of EDS, to acquire the rights to independently develop, sell and support the SmartCAM line of computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software.

“SmartCAM pioneered the industry move to desktop CAM and our research indicates a thriving customer base who wish to continue to use SmartCAM,” said Gregg Olson, president of MRS. “We look forward to this opportunity to build on the product’s heritage and provide manufacturers with a powerful industry-proven CAM solution.”

In addition to new software license sales, MRS will offer maintenance and discounts on additional seats and products to registered SmartCAM customers.

SmartCam was a great product in it's day. Well ahead of it's time. It was a sad day when SDRC killed it, using the customer base to push Ideas. Who knows where SmartCam would be today if it had been supported and developed way back then.

This will be intersting to watch and see how much development goes on.

I might have to get out my V11.2 manual and look how fwr behind they really are, Toolpaths were cool cause they were entities you could change them pretty easily.and the verify was pretty good

you could save it as you went along so you didnt need to show all your paths and that was 8 years ago they had that V9 or before.Any how its dead Its to late to come back, although there are still alot of dedicated users. We'll see. biggrin.gif
