Finishing Floors

Maybe I am doing this totaly wrong.

I am trying to finish some pockets in a P-20 base, I tried to use Surface Pocket finishing to zero. I used a 750bull nose. Then told Mastercam that it was a .780 cutter so it would not hit the walls. Then I used Detect Flats and gave it like a 5inch stepdown so it would just finish the floors. It does cut a lot of air because of all the levels. But, it gets the job done.

 

Now My problem, I want it to ramp down to the finish floor. But, what ends up happening is it will start ramping 5inchs above zero. It will get to the finish floor. But, it takes forever.

 

What in the heck am I doing wrong and also, is there a better way to go about finishing floors or am I being to lazy

Is your top of stock set at absolute zero?

 

If so, maybe setting to .1" above the remaining stock would eliminate ramping through 5" of air.

try surface finish shallow lou, check surface your walls or use a boudry. also you can 2d pocket and project it on the surface

2d pocket with like a .002-.005 stepover owrks like a champ on Flat surfaces and you can control the pattern with the pocket controls.

In your ENTRY-RAMP radial button, change "Z CLEARANCE" to 0. This will feed your cutter back to the last plane. For example, if multiple pass is 1.0 and final depth is 5.0, then the cutter will return to -1.0 before starting the next set of ramping .
