Okuma Controls and file size

Recommended Posts

I need some help from the Okuma wizards here on eMC

I've got 2 Okuma 5X machines here

#1 an MU1000-H horizontal trunion machine

it has an OSP 200 control

We routinely run files that are 40mg + with no trouble at all

#2  a VTM-1200 5 axis vertical lathe

this machine is fully 5 axis capable and has an OSP 300 control

to date the biggest file I've successfully run on it is 683K

I just tried to load a 6meg file and get an error.

Error # 5211 Program Buffer overflow

Help for this error say the program is too big and to reduce file size to 30m

I assume that means a tape length of 30 meters

A chart I found online says 40 meters is 16K so that can't be right

This is a full 5x machine.. some people are building impellers with them

It seems ridiculous that I'm limited to 700k

Did we get low balled on memory??  Is there a setting I need to change or memory I need to buy?

I'm working on a complex 5X mill turn part...

the roughing file posts at 6 meg... finishing  at 14 meg

Its time consuming and dangerous breaking files like this into 600K chunks

Any ideas ???

I use a scheduled program to get around the buffer overflow on an OLD control. But this is only to get smaller subprogram into active memory from MD1: even though MD1: holds more

-of no use to you considering program size

DNC-T1 sounds like a standard feature to load from a data server operated from the machine.

DNC-DT is optional and manual mentions  "large programs"

Are you loading the programme (programme selecting) via A, B or S method?

No idea, what's the difference

I drop the file into a network drive

The operator drags it into the machine`s data  server

Then he tries to load it into the control and the machine alarms out

(2) Operation Methods
Select the operation method using the pop-up window MAIN PROGRAM SELECT (MEMORY
MODE) that appears when calling a program to be run. The operation method can be also
selected by the setting at the NC optional parameter (word) No. 11.

When A-Mtd is selected
Program running method A becomes effective.
The machining program to be executed is transferred to the operation buffer in a batch.
This method is used when the program size is smaller than the operation buffer capacity.

When B-Mtd is selected
Program running method B becomes effective.
The main program to be executed is called to the operation buffer in several segments.
This method is used when the main program is larger than the operation buffer capacity.
Since schedule programs, subprograms, and library programs are generally called to the
operation buffer in a batch, these programs must be created with restriction placed on their
capacities.

When S-Mtd is selected
Program running method S becomes effective.
This method is used to execute a main program with large size which does not use branch
or subprogram call functions.
