  1. Well...Just on the odd chance that nobody has mentioned it...you could check to make sure the NC file name is the same. That one got me for awhile!!
  2. That's where we're goin.... Do I need to upgrade Lathe to do mill turn, single spindle and single turret??? I also think I need to get the multi axis module for level three to use the full fourth?
  3. I would be delighted Colin. I'll shoot you an email in the morning. I have to call my reseller (who is better than any of yours, by the way... about the multi axis add on and an upgrade to lathe so I can do live tooling and y axis stuff.
  4. Well, We just shook hands on a HP5100 Daewoo Horizontal and a Puma 2000Y live tooled turning center The Horiz comes with 116 tools, 14k, tool management, AI NANO, A ton of options, Laser tool probe, spindle probe. Yada Yada. We've negotiating a building, so we're putting the delivery off till the end of June Lots of money but I'm stoked!!
  5. You know, I been commin here bout that long as well but I never knew it was that new. I think I first found this place in the fall of 2000. Seems everone was all excited about the new vastly improved V8. There I was stuck with Mill level 1.... That's been a long time ago. This place has pulled me out the fire so many times it's not even funny. Cheers Guys!!
  6. Nah...it's that with all the new updates to lathe, we, ever so smart lathe programmers got it all figured out. Yea...That's it...
  7. Uh.... Dosn't take me six months to not know about sumpin...
  8. I have not had a crash since being told about the temp folder.
  9. There are many little cutter companies out there that provide a cutter that will compete very well with the big guys. I buy half inch 4 flute variable helix endmills Tialn coated for $34 apiece in quantitys of 20 or so from Carbide Connection. They will ship overnight. they will out cut a Varimill and a Z Carb and last longer doing it. I cut 316 at 200sfm and .004 per tooth. .500 doc and .100 radial. I just finished doing a thousand 4340 parts where I removed .200 from th perifery on each side, .325deep at 7700 rpm and 110 ipm. Cutters were being changed out at a hundred part intervals. I look all the time for better cutters. I have never seen anything that will out cut them.
  10. Yea...but what'ws the word from those what might know sumpin? I got my eye on a twin spindle twin turret machine.....
  11. I also have a Daewoo lathe nad love it. It a real work horse. I get great service from my local dealer. I have been talking to them for a while now as they know where I want to be in two years. I understand the linear guides are not balls but rollers. Kind of the best of both worlds. I have a quote for an HP4000 with 170 tools, full fourth, probing, tool management, TSC, AI NANO, and we're talking about pallet pools, data servers, ethernet, yada yada. Lots of questions.
  12. That's a nice machine. How are you getting it configured?
  13. Just got a little info on a 400mm Kitamura. I had no idea...... 400mm machine. 37500lbs. Hoowah!
  14. Word. I was having SERIOUS issues with crashes. Dumped the temp files and all has been well
  15. Ron My question about the full fourth was really out of ignorance. I had been told, that they were more fragile. I have two machines with a full fourth but don't use them very often. I "Could" if I were to take the time to build a set of tombstones for them...but I haven't. I was wondering if the money would be better spent for other things if that was in fact the case. It'll be a full fourth.
  16. I thought about a five axis machine last year when we sat down to think about projections for this year. I have a couple opportunitles to go sfter soem 5x work. But most of it is 4020 work. That's a good sized machine. What I've been finding are machines that are trunion machines with a MUCH smaller work envelope. If I go that dirrection, I'd rather buy a neutating head machine. But at least we thought about it... Not yet.
  17. Ok, I'm going to ask a REALLY dumb question here. Are you guys talking about CL programming to mean that all four faced use one offset? Or that each face gets a fixture offset? I have allways used a G54 for A0, G55 for the side of A90 and G56 for the side of A270 That would cover everything accessable on those three sides from A0 Or just what the heck are you guys talkin bout?
  18. I've allways had a soft spot for Matsuura. Great machine. I had three little MV500's years ago with Yasnac controls. I worked in a shop (coupple of them actually) that had Matsuuras. Big strong machines. The first time I saw high speed machining was on a LaBlond Makino. I was amazed. that was in about 1985 or so.
  19. I would welcome talking to ore people that know more about these things than I do. I'm talking to Rick Hendrickson from this forum as well. There are a lot of things that I need to put in place before this happens. But I'm going to move in the direction of lights out machining with Horizontals and pallet pools. We are looking at a building that we can possibly move into in the middle of June. There are a number of processes I need to put inplace before I get to signing the check. But we're moving in that direction. Heck...even the wife is in agreement.
  20. Yup. This is the stuff I wanna know. I'm going to put together some more questions in the next couple days. I think I'm going to want to sit down and talk with a couple apps guys from each dealer. I think...
  21. I ain't there yet Jim. But I will be. I have a line on a building I'm very interested in. I have a Haas Turning center that needs to go away and be replaced. I have to move my shop and think seriously about a Horiz. We aint there yet but we've started walkin in that direction. As I get closer, I'm going to be looking for someone that wants to go there with us.
