  1. I do the same as the bear (with or without brains), I just always grind 3 sides of a solid carbide blank or broken endmill to a point, usually at 10 degrees. Nice clean letters, just don't try to go too deep.
  2. So since I'm really only concerned with running Mastercam, and Mastercam for solidworks, and I'm looking at getting Vista (it looks like they will be offering free upgrades to windows 7 when it is released) would I be better off with 32 bit or 64 bit? Probably a quad core xeon from DELL. How about Vista Business VS. Vista Ultimate? Any differences that I should worry about? Thanks again for the help!
  3. computer gurus, what are the advantages and disadvantages specifically for Mastercam? Thank you,
  4. If you haven't posted that in the benchmark thread, do so that is pretty dang good. good to see you yesterday pete, I forgot to ask how your back was doing?
  5. While it doesn't replace hole axis, using FBM Drill in X4 will give you vector lines.
  6. Great turnout yesterday guys, I hope everyone had a good time getting out of the shop and hopefully learning a little something. no comments on the presenter... keep in touch on how all the new stuff works out.
  7. set it to allow dos names, loading a nc file with the name starting with an "O" (I think) makes it think it is conversational. When you allow dos names the file can be any name, and will allow you to view/edit the gcode. In fact there are several things you should check, the G18 arc, disable trig help, and allow dos names. HTH
  8. +1 to murlin and Ron. the utility stopped working with 8. You can use some free 3rd party keymapping softare to input coordinates for point creation but the verisurf stuff works really well.
  9. try using the high feed function within mastercam, it won't let you cut a circle any faster, but it will let you cut fast when you can and slow down when you cannot. HTH
  10. rmnodes.dll will create a new spline based on a tolerance which can add control points. but it is not adda control point right here function. What I do is create points segment, then create a spline automatic based on those points. It may take a couple of tries but you can usually get something that has what you need with a manageable amount of node points, unlike what you may get when using the rmnodes.dll. regards,
  11. you would need to use either a 5 axis post setup to use the right angle attachment or a 4 axis post setup to support angled/aggregate heads. Regards,
  12. Toonz, your dealer is either Prototek or Shopware, both offer whatever training you need, contact your dealer and they will be able to take care of you. Regards,
  13. does the gouge show up in verify or backplot? If it doesn't show up there it's not the filters fault. There may be some arc output settings that don't jive with what the machine wants or simply an arc error at the machine. What kind of machine?
  14. so you want verify to show a .00005" (50 millionths of an inch) change on the radius?
  15. I just tried doing an undo after a save in the mastercam editor and it works, I wonder when that came along??? I've been using the cimco editor by default for post editing for so long I never thought to try it in the Mastercam editor. That file compare does look nice.
  16. I see this thread has been "stickied" (is that a word?), good idea. I just wanted to note something for everyone to take note of. When this thread was started on 05.23.07 the fastest time was just shy of 7 minutes. 21 months later we are now just shy of 3 minutes. How much is due to computer hardware vs. CNC Software making the toolpaths calculate faster I don't know but either way these are significant gains in productivity.
  17. can you undo after a save? to me that is really the main reason I do not like the Mastercam editor for post editing. How is the file compare? Cimco's works well, the plug in for the mastercam editor does not.
  18. It's easiest to import an operation from an operation library via a vbscript that would have all the parameters preset. HTH
  19. as noted more info required to answer the question, but you can some/all of the following functions: machine the solid directly create curve all edges xform project solids layout createboundary.dll solid to 2d profile etc...
  20. Those are nice taps and work well, but spiral taps are a pain in the but to get out if they do break. Roll tap or threadmill anything you can.
  21. Your reseller will be able to help you with a post, the haas post will not work. for example milltronics requires the first location of a drill cycle be output in the G83 line or it will skip the first location. but there are some controller settings you will need to check, specifically you will need to disable the trig help function and check that G18 arcs cut in the correct direction. HTH
  22. set the milltronics to allow dos names and you won't have that problem with the file names.
  23. X3 did you do the post install, if you didn't you will onlly have a few.
  24. There is a milltronics centurion 6 post that comes with the install. But that is just the beginning, you will need to turn off the trig help function (as this will cause arc errors) and run a G18 arc on the machine to ensure it cutting in the right direction. HTH
