  1. Thanks I though I was going crazy this morning
  2. an unknown point in space. I'm drawing a .25mm long tangent line on an endpoint of an existing arc. I don't know where the endpoint is or what the angle is, i only have my arc on the screen. I finally drew a line from the center of the arc to the endpoint of the arc. then drew a second line perpendicular to the first line with a length of .25mm. I just thought there should be a quicker way.
  3. I have a partail arc drawn and I need a line tangent to the end point of the arc. For some reason I can't get this to work. can some walk me thru it. thanks
  4. I agree that the change is good for the entity selection windo. But why when you select zoom by window? I guess they are tied together and have to work the same. No big deal I'm still liking X, especially now that I have wire and don't have to keep going back to 9.
  5. Seems like my mouse has to be moving when I click the first corner. more like a drag than a click.
  6. I work with mman10 and all of our questions usually get answered here, but a few of us have been to 5 axis training and have worked with it for more than a year now and were hoping to find some more advanced training. Crazy, as far as posting a file on the FTP site we cannot do that, we are in the medical industry and can't share our drawings. John13 was that 5 axis training? Prism is our reseller and we have not heard back from them yet (although it was only this morning that I called them). [ 01-06-2006, 12:23 PM: Message edited by: deckerc ]
  7. I think it's missing a nice "G0 Z-100.0" move
  8. I had a similar issue a while back. Mine was caused by not having rapid retract checked on the previous operation. the post then didn't realize it was in a G0 on the next tool change and rapided into the part.
  9. the default directory is set in the "files" section of the control definition.
  10. isn't there something in the forum rules about this???
  11. using X here. 2d, 3d, and 5axis, everything except when I need to wire something
  12. The instability is when your doing five axis work and the tool passes back thru vertical. The math equations then try to divide by zero which is impossible. I usually try changing my paths to prevent the tool from going perfectly vertical. I'm not sure about the wind up.
  13. is your tool defined with a shoulder??
  14. i think you have to do that in the geometry section of the toolpath. unselect the old solid then add the new.
  15. it depends where you are right clicking at. If I remeber correclty you have to be on top of the machine group for this to work.
  16. you also have arc ouput settings in your control definition
  17. sorry, didn't read your entire post. i don't know what the problem might be....
  18. go into your group manager and delete the group name. when you import it puts that geometry into a group.
  19. just a shot in the dark, but do you have admin rights on the computer?
  20. mcpgmr, we've tried alot of things including the allocations, haven't found the magic numbers yet. think we eventually buy some software just to convert the STL. thanks for the suggestion.
  21. mcpgmr I do work in the synthes prototype shop, but I don't get to do interviews. been here about 8 years. Can't really get into specifics of the STL's but they are not coming from Pro-E. It takes the engineers 1 to 2 days to convert them in pro-E. I personally don't know Pro-e. the computers come up with "not enough memory" when trying the stl2surf c-hook in mcam and they are not even half way converted. There is just to many triangles in these STL's so we've been toolpathing directly off of the file.
  22. when that is the only file being given to you and you don't have software to convert the STL to anything else, you don't have much of a choice. I can't explain our application, but for now we are stuck with STL's on this particular reoccuring job.
  23. I run my tolerance around .0002 with a 1:1 filter range on my big STL files and get good looking parts, but they take a long time to calculate. good luck, I hate working with STL's, but have no choice at the moment. I keep hoping for a good translator to come along. The STL to surf chook for v9 never worked because my files are too large, and we don't have other any of the other softwares capable of converting these.
  24. I've done some STL machining and they are usually very large files. I've had them with over 100,000 triangles. They take a long time to calculate toolpaths. Basically I'm sayin you may have to wait longer depending on your surfacing tolerance. Try making your tolerance big just to see if you can get a toolpath, then tighten it up later.
