  1. if you're running an NVIDIA graphics card, go to the Control Panel

and run the Desktop Manager utility

My left screen is my main but I put mastercam on my Right screen with the operations manager on the right side of the left screen.

I Tried this and I am not sure what I did but I messed something up.   I just opened up the desktop manager and clicked around and I did not see anything that made sense to me about keeping certain programs on certain screens. so I closed it but now every time I do anything in mastercam my operations manager jumps from the Right side of left screen to the left side. any thoughts on how to correct this.  Its very annoying.

    Thanks

  2. Rocket machinist what kind of Ethernet switch do you have? So I have to decide if I want one hub and longer RS-232 cables or hubs on each machine with shorter cables. Our cables are all under 100ft. would it benefit us to go with hubs at each machine? Im guessing the cost will be higher that route.

  3. Thanks guys. Rocketmachinist can you explain how your system works. I get the general idea of how these hubs work but I like the idea creating a local network because our main network/server isn't the most reliable sometimes. How hard is it to set up? Is this something that should be pretty easy for our IT guy? Predator seems to push to have them come out and set it up but want to charge a lot and said it would take all day. Where is a good place to but the Moxa server at?

  4. I hope this OK to post here if not please move it to the correct forum. What are you guys using to DNC to multiple machines from 1 computer? We currently have 2 computers each feeding a couple machines but can only do one machine at a time. We want to get down to 1 computer and update the software to be able to do it. 5 machines connected using RS-232 cables and that is not gonna change. What are the options for a bus/switch? What software are you guys using. I got a quote from predator and I am waiting to hear back from cimco. Im not sure if there is other options out there or not.

    Thanks

  5. Thanks everyone for any input you gave. I ended up doing it the old fashioned way last week because I didnt have the time to play around as the management decided they couldnt wait. But Im going to print off this forum for my notes for the next chance I get to do somthing similar. Chris where or how did you come up with a starting point of 3500rpms and 100ipm And just FYI this is going in a 40 taper hass if I already didnt mention it. Thanks again.

  6. Sorry for lack of info. a little distracted today. Yes 1/2" diameter. As far as the 1.5 loc is because we have 1.00" or 1.5 loc and I was hoping to do it in one cut if possible. We dont get the liberty of ordering anything we want here. small shop and they seem to stick to the cheap stuff. Just trying to make the most of what we have. the chart I have from garr says sfm of 175 -250. It just seems that when dynamic paths are considered the numbers used are no where near the recommended so that is why I was asking. I was also thinking 10-12% step over. Thanks

  7. I wanna try using a dynamic area mill to do a pocket and I have had limited success in the past. material is A36. I will be using a standard garr 4 flute carbide 1.5" loc cutting 1.125 deep. I wanna do it in 1 depth cut. What is a good safe starting spot for feeds and speeds. I looked at the database but that seems to be mostly special coated endmills. any help is appreciated. Thanks

  8. I need to cut a cross hatch pattern that is .200 wide by about 6" long .017" deep with a .125 x 90deg (2 flute .005 tip) AITiN coated engraving tool. I will be plunging off of the part. What should I use for a depth of Cut. According to Harvey Tools site I was going to start with 10,000rpms and 5ipm which is .0003 fpt. Not sure if I should go slow and deeper or faster and lighter. Only have 1 Part to make and have 4 cutters to get thru it. Thanks

  9. I Ended up with a reconditioned Ebay special Dell m6500 , i5 2.53ghz, 8gb ram, nvidia fx2800m with 1gb memory, dual 320gb hard drives, windows 7 64bit, mint conditon for $400. It ran the new benchmark file in 6:02. Im happy with it for what I need it do to.
