  1. I should ask which control is on your machine?
  2. Bill- We always run in Format 2 as it offers more options. However you still need a D#, and H#, to match your T#. Tell me what you are not getting that you want, or get but don't want. I am not clear on what type of program you want to run. 2D with control cutter comp? 2D with MC comp? 2D with both? 3D? Are you getting D and H numbers that match the T#?
  3. Thanks Pete All I was missing was the update. First time anyone sent me a native SE file, must have been V16.
  4. Am I correct in assuming there is no current translator for native Solid Edge files? A while back someone from CNC was asking in reference to X but a search shows nothing else. Anybody know if X will have one?
  5. There isn't always a transfer fee. I seriously doubt if anyone would really care about 3.11. Having started using 3.11 I can tell you that if what ever you do has any level of competition, you would be VERY hard pressed to be competitive using 3.11. SO many improvements over the years! If you were going to use for hobby work that might be different. As was stated above it will be unsupported, so you are kind of on your own. If your hope was to save something on upgrade charges by starting with that seat, I don't think it will help you much.

    Help

gms- It won't do what you are asking it to. You have .005 in STL and your tool radius is the same as the part radius. It will never go to the wall with those settings. If you want the tool to come as close as it can try a pencil prg, but that bull nose will not go all the way into the corner. Can you use a 3/16 ball?
  7. Hey Bill- Are you related to Doug Koenig?
  8. First thing to do is Squash the geometry. If that doesn't work, then go to something else.
  9. And also once you are "there", set a WCS and give it a memorable name so you can get back in a hurry.
  10. Threept82: This has happened to many times and I just find a way to get where I want to go through rotation (g-view/rotate). But if it is going to be a confusing bugger, than I construct something to use as a reference, like a tooling ball. Same way you would use it to machine, just using it to double check that I rotated the right way. And I always put it on paper and document what I'm doing so i can repeat it. It doesn't have to be a tooling ball, but anything you can back fiigure to as a check.
  11. Thanks for the heads-up Ezra!!!!!!!
  12. Peter- Nothing as good as the link from Steve, but I have a model of the 1911 frame. I had to buy it as I didn't have any good links like the one above. The project is only a square block of stainless so far........one of these days I'll get on it. Good luck, I think it is great fun, and hopefully I'll get mine done before I die.
  13. Wow, don't know if I can help, but I feel your pain. Had a few problems similar in past and it always seems related to the model/file. That is where I would start. Have you analyzed the solid yet? Or maybe bring it in as surfaces and check/fix them, then stitch it back into solid. Good Luck!!!!
  14. Paul We had several problems with the "cleanliness" of translations, particularly different versions of AutoCad/Mechanical Desktop and found that changing the system tolerance seems to have some effect on the translations. We settled on .00002 for best all around performance with translations. Be careful as you can have trouble with files that were created using a different tolerance. As for error in translation, you should have none. If you aren't sure, crank up the "decimal places for analyze" and it should tell you if there is a problem. HTH
  15. We back up to a Seagate Travan tape drive 40G every night and store in fireproof safe. Peer to peer network with a Snap Server for file storage. However the next time the tape drive acts up, we are going to switch to using an external hard drive (can get 120G for $150 Seagate) because we have customers who basically insist that files are archived off premise. They say on premise fireproof is not good enough. We can take the hard drive home. Looked into on-line storage but cost is astronomical.
  16. For this app. I would try to go inserted as mentioned above. Many good choices that will be better than staying with solid carbide. however If you stay with solid carbide, don't write off Garr, but switch to high helix EMs. The 60 degree helix kick butt in soft and hard mold steels.
  17. Bill If you haven't already got this one solved, first question is ? is your MC file oriented with a WCS? You must rotate your GEO to world plane before you DWG out for ACAD. So no WCS set. Second, when you copied to a new level did you save only those entities you want to appear in the DWG? When I am sending partial data out I use the "save some" feature to be sure of what I am sending. HTH
  18. gcode: I believe Anvil started out CAD only but somewhere in the '90s they added toolpath generation. According to their site it is full featured now. Bpin: What good are you? No re-hitching as of yet. Taking it slow.......er.
  19. I was wondering if anyone out there has used Anvil Express? We are considering a guy who has used it and wondered what kind of learning curve to expect. Anyone have an opinion on similarities or differences to MC? This is a software we aren't familiar with.
