  1. In the thread parameters click the multi start tab then enter 2 in the thread start box. Besides that just enter the values for that thread from the machinist handbook or mastercams chart for thread parameters.
  2. You may need to x the color printing box in config.

    .ipt.dwf

I installed inventor view and was able to open .ipt files but files saved as .ipt.dwf open as wireframe. I don't know why engineering is saving in this format, why is there 2 different format extensions back to back? I use .dwf all the time in MCX4 & now can use .ipt but not when put together. It sucks all of the programing we do has to be done using out of scale & sometimes out of wack .dwf's. I'm trying to get access to our solid archive but is slow to come. I'll keep working on it.

    .ipt.dwf

Thanks guys I'll look into it.
  5. I use k-tool flat bottom drills every day. They work awsome. No predrilling or spot drilling needed. They've held up better for me than kennametal index drills do so were switching all our drills over from kennametal to k tool as they need replaced. Good finish also.

    .ipt.dwf

I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on this when I open a .ipt.dwf file in mastercam it looks like a stl not a solid. I've read you need solids (which gonna have to beg mgmt to get) but it also says you need inventor view. We have Autodesk design review is this the same thing or different software. The solid opens in design review to be viewed. Also does a .ipt.dwf have to be opened different in MC than a .ipt? Does it have to be converted back to a .ipt? Thanks X4 mu 3, Design review 2011 I think, might be 2010
  7. Thanks for the vid link heavy chevy, opti rough & hybrid look sweet. Anyone know when X5 is gonna be out?

  9. We machine a part that requires a lot of cutting. The part is about 2' square by 4" thick. Right now we plunge mill most of the plate away, about 2 1/2" deep of material cut except a few islands with a 2" 3 flute index plunge cutter taking .25 stepover. I am drooling to try out dynamic milling on this part since it takes better than a shift to rough this part out. My question is on how fast, stepover, ipm etc. The machine has a cat 50 taper with 30 HP. Cutter is 2.5" Ktool 4 flute index e.m. with plenty of flute length. Material is 1045 plate & I have no air blast so I have to use coolant. My starting point was gonna be 750 rpm, .25 step over (10%), 30 ipm at full 2.5" depth. Does this sound in the ballpark? Dynamic looks perfect for this job since backplot says 2hrs to rough out entire plate. My boss & coworkers are old school so I hope this can show them what machines and cam can do. Any info would be great.
  10. Icons work well after u get the screen custimized to what u use, get rid of icons u don't use and add the ones u do use. One other thing to remember to do thats in X thats not in v9 is to end selection after u xform because entities are live and u can change them even when u think u are working on the next task with the same function.
  11. Thats the only way I got into programming, keep on them and when u get a chance show them what u can do. I still have to run machines but get a decent amount of seat time. I had to keep reminding them till they got sick of hearing me, may anoy some bosses but persistance works. Good luck
  12. I was messing with the mpfan post and I noticed that there isn't any buffers like i see in some mpmaster examples. My question is where do I put the buffer. My work didn't pay maitnence that ran out last friday so I don't know if I can even download mpmaster from there site. This seems a little more complicated than other post editing that i've done.
  13. Thanks i'll give it a shot.
  14. I am trying to figure out how to add tool comments with the staged tool. I'm using mpfan. In most searchs i've found everyone says use mpmaster. I have the mpfan post working great (except the comments) so I don't really want to start from scratch again. Any ideas on the comments. How does mpmaster work differently from other posts, whats the difference? Using X4MR2
  15. I was looking for this answer, found this in a search. Thanks for the info, bin fooling with this for a while. I was close to what you have but not quite there. I'll try it tomorrow. Will be sweet not to have to do this in the editor. Thanks again.
  16. I had a brain fart earlier not p2 use p1. You already have A29 in your code whitch is tool nose angle, that looks good. P2 cuts on both sides of insert while P1 uses leading edge only. I'm not sure but I think the default for haas if no "P" code is called in the G76 line is P1 if thats case the "P" code won't do anything for you.
  17. I agree with you guys, with the haas I run if chatter is a problem wile threading I do all the things you guys said P2, broom handle, and slow down rpm. Usually p2 and rpm works. If you have a follow rest that may help also. Your rpm does seem fast, slow way down like Kevangel said. I must say though that the haas lathe I run is less than a year old and is the most chatter prone lathe i've ever run. Haas repair man says there's nothing wrong with it. Last haas lathe my employer will ever buy!
  18. R&D thanks for the help but I stayed after work tonight for 4 hours on my own time and got it figured out. My mind is a little boggled though.
  19. R&D, just read training on docs discussion. Sounds like were in the same boat. It'd be great to learn some 5 axis stuff and basic processor editing. Apps man gave some great pointers. I'm almost to the same point as the main programmer at work, but he's stuck using mc9 thats why im trying to get X3 posts set up. To get others to use it, not just myself. Training is on my wish list but i'll fumble through everything untill adventually it works. Then if I do we'll prob get X4 working and i'll have to start over again.
  20. I don't know it might be a dumb question but did you update your post processor and control definition in X4.
  21. I see that I messed up again schouldn't been talking about dealer. I just read the rules, my fault I'm sorry. Won't happen again. Wow, I read the post's here and most are way over my head. Can't even add a comment to the posts. Don't have solid option or mess with anything over 3 axis. It'd be nice to get some mastercam training but with the economy situation not goin to happen anytime soon. Still learning on the fly. Been running machines for 11 years but programming only a year. Also I work second shift and internet access is shut off at 5pm so I can't use a work email or access emastercam. Have to wait till I get home.
  22. I agree with the millman that you learn a lot more trying to figure something out than having it done for you. Once that light kicks on in your head and you figure it out, you usually get a lot of knowledge that may help you in the future or may even help with another problem right now. Thats a cool feeling when you learn how to fix something that you wern't even thinking about in the first place. Has anyone heard about install problems with X4? We tried to install first time a few weeks ago with no luck. Called dealer, said he'd call back. Recieved no call back, been too busy to call him back lately but your employer spends alot of money for programs and updates and you don't even get a call back. Customer service lousy? Its nice having you guys here to help so hopefully i'll have to deal with dealer as little as possible. When I learn a little more it'd be nice to help others as they've been helping me. Thanks once again.
  23. Yup definatly agree that people at work think everything done in the machine shop (not just programming) looks easy. All we do is watch a part get cut or stare at a computer screen and everything just works perfectly and does everything by itself. Mastercam can do about anything but figuring out how to get it to do it is the problem. "it's awesome to be able to pop in here and converse with your own kind." Yea it is pretty cool.
