  1. That sounds pretty conservative. 50 is hard but your specs sound slow. 4500 comes out to about 18sfm. Iscar recommends 100-130 sfm for 55 hrc which = 25,000 to 33,000 rpm. Hth.
  2. Well the old beast is being retired. I just dealt with it to get through the night. Hope I don't have the problem with the new setup.
  3. Any time I am using inventor a window pops up that says preparing to install mcam x4. Installing converters? I know that they somehow will work together. Gettin a new computer tomorrow but this is driving me insane today. It pops up almost after every mouse click. Won't install says there's a problem. Anyone know how to shut this warning off? Thanks
  4. By funny I meant ridiculous, absurd. To clarify what I was trying to say. [ 09-14-2010, 04:00 AM: Message edited by: jhjr @ Mclanahan Corp ]
  5. Thats funny. Tell a moderator to read the rules. Lol
  6. quote: CNC still don’t understand importance of several instances of MC open or multiopen MCX files for work with different projects on different machines simultaneously. At SC you can for example copy and paste operations between to open instances. I hope CNC hears this. Hint hint. That'd be on my wish list. Sorry for the hijack
  7. To add to what Chris said if you see the red x instead of the tool picture there will be an explanation of what is wrong with the tool at the bottom of the page that has the red x.
  8. I use lathe and mill quite a bit. Mill is an awesome piece of software IMO. Lathe, well not as much love for it. Don't get me wrong I can make any part I need to with it but kinda quirky.
  9. We do Sunday starts but I don't think it would matter much unless you have to get parts out on Saturdays. Usually for us if first works weekends then so do off shifts, optional but most don't turn down the $. So o.t. doesn't affect us in the way ablucra stated. I'd go with what the employees want. Have a vote. That might raise morale also if they have a voice.
  10. Yes, I agree stock recognition will dirty all ops that come after the changed op but why does it do this if just a speed or feed is changed? Speeds or feeds should have nothing to do with stock. Right?
  11. Clear colors, save & for some reason I select all ops before saving and closing a .mcx file. For a quick verify or back plot later on I guess. It's like a weird twitch. I rarely open the file back up.
  12. Wow I thought my employer was cheap but no carbide cutters that's f'n ridiculous. Do you machine anything besides alum? I couldn't imagine cutting steel or anything else at hss/co speeds all the time. I'd be like watchin paint dry. Lol. When i ask for a $2k 12'' facemill then i'd have problems but not with an endmill! Good luck.
  13. I think all you should have to do is move scoolant up one line. This is from mpmaster V9. from code: pretract #End of tool path, toolchange sav_absinc = absinc absinc = one sav_coolant = coolant coolant = zero #cc_pos is reset in the toolchange here cc_pos = zero gcode = zero pbld, n, sccomp, psub_end_mny, e pbld, n, sgabsinc, sgcode, "G28", "Z0.", *sm05, scoolant, e ---------------- #if lock_codes = 1 & rot_on_x, pbld, n, *sunlock, to code: pretract #End of tool path, toolchange sav_absinc = absinc absinc = one sav_coolant = coolant coolant = zero #cc_pos is reset in the toolchange here cc_pos = zero gcode = zero pbld, n, sccomp, psub_end_mny, scoolant, e ------------ pbld, n, sgabsinc, sgcode, "G28", "Z0.", *sm05, e #if lock_codes = 1 & rot_on_x, pbld, n, *sunlock Correct me if I am wrong guys. I'm kind of a hack post editor. Always make sure you save a copy of your original post for backup.
  14. Very cool I didn't know you could merge an stl. Xform stl works but is kind of a pita Always like finding out about a feature that I didn't know was there & i'm sure that list is seemingly endless in MC. I've shown my fellow programmers at my job lots of little tricks i've learned here that come in handy & wanted to say thanks to all of you.
  15. Thanks superman, I'll check that out tomorrow.
  16. I think it wouldn't round a corner, it would be square unless you change a parameter in your control or call for a specific G code to tell the control to do so. So if you wan't a sharpe edge make sure your geometry is sharp or filleted for an edge break.
  17. No internet access for me at work. Is that the path for the library?
  18. You may want to post this in the main forum. Most won't see it. I just stumbled into it. Welcome to the forum.
  19. Hello all. Everytime I select a tool from my library I get an error message, tool or library can't be found. Something like that. I can't remember the exact message cause i'm at home. I can get the exact message later when i'm at work if needed. The funny thing is that after clicking ok on the error message the tool comes in & all is well, just getting sick of seeing the message & all the extra clicks. It also lags a little bit after clicking ok. I did update my library for X4 when it was installed, I think. I can't quite remember if that was needed or not but I ran the update utility & did everything my reseller & the X4 install manual said to do. That was a while ago but i've had the problem from X4 to X4mu3. It is an old library from V9 through X3 till now. This is a mill library. I did a search on the forum and found nothing. Has anyone else seen this or know a fix? Thanks in advance for any replies.
  20. Yes you can create subprograms in mastercam. If you are copying a toolpath or rotating it, mirroring it etc, translate toolpath can do the subs in Inc or abs in the single mastercam file. You can also sub out depth cuts or multi passes also in a toolpath. Everything should be able to be done in one part file. You can change offsets also in your toolpaths or translated toolpaths so you get G55 G56 etc. If different parts are being done in one setup you can create different offsets with your wcs view manager. Research the help files in mc for the view manager or training may be in order. The whole view manager is kinda tricky till you get used to it. HTH
  21. quote: For those that are curious thanks, you read my mind also quote: McamX3 Lathe Level 1 XP, C2D E6400 @ 2.1, 1024 RAM Barely enough to check email It's hard coming from home (i7 920 @ 4200 and 6 gigs of ddr3 1600) I hear you. I wish mastercam would up there minimum requirements. Cheap Employers suck!!! They'll spend the bucks on the software then make you run it on a turd.
  22. quote: program name conventions I guess I'm to old school to know what this means. Is it like an IMTS for your programs. Just kidding. What does it mean Dave?
  23. I don't know a way either but I second that. It'd be nice if you could.
  24. Wow I'm glad that's not my boss. . See about getting a special internal acme threadmilling tool. Jeff I don't think code is his problem. It'd be ok if it was a 60 degree thread but a regular acme turning insert will not work for internal threadmilling. It cuts to wide. I imagine the insert needs to be thinner than the actual thread profile. He needs a special insert for this. I just looked at the ph horn website. They do make acme internal threadmills as Stephen said. I'd look up there # & give them a call. I'm sure they could get you what you need.
