  1. Dell outlet http://www1.us.dell.com/content/segmenter....c=us&l=en&s=dfo
  2. Dell Outlet, refurbs, 3 year warranty As far as I can figer, these are barely used. I've bought 3, great value, even if they are not exactly what you want, and you have to add to 'em. System Identifier: Z2CM5H9H $1130 Precision 370 Pentium 4 3.2GHz XP professional 1GB 400MHz DDR2 ram 128MB video Dual 74G hard drive 10000 rpm floppy 48X/32X CD-RW DVD or 09EJ68EH which has a larger cashe, will be basicly faster, but has only .5G RAM (will have to add more . . .) And if you see something you think IS a great value, you should act fast, odds are someone else is eyein' it too. Especially the larger cashe machines, they go fastest. JK
  3. Depends on how much cuttin' yer doin'. Depends on the finish and tolerence ya need. If yer just makin' clearence, carbide will do, but (fired) ceramic will chow on tools MUCH more than Macor. Normally fired ceramic is ground with diamond grit. Macor is designed to be machined. Still nasty on tools especially under 1/16". We've had 3/16" tools run fine thru 100 parts, though showing substantial wear. And diamond coated 1/32" drill .7" deep lasting 250+ holes, where carbide shows wear at 6-8 and leaves tungsten carbide deposits on part at 15 holes. Best to go with diamond coated for small tools in Macor, unless your run is short. JK
  4. What is that file name?, on the FTP? Thankx, Jeff
  5. how 'bout an .mc8, por favor gracias
  6. FYI http://www.itia.org.uk/tungsten/tungsten_app_cem.html Cemented carbide, or hardmetal as it is often called, is a material made by "cementing" very hard tungsten monocarbide (WC) grains in a binder matrix of tough cobalt metal by liquid phase sintering. The combination of WC and metallic cobalt as a binder is a well-adjusted system not only with regard to its properties, but also to its sintering behaviour. The high solubility of WC in cobalt at high temperatures and a very good wetting of WC by the liquid cobalt binder result in an excellent densification during liquid phase sintering and in a pore-free structure. As a result of this, a material is obtained which combines high strength, toughness and high hardness.
  7. Is not ECC ram prefered if you are doing complex surface toolpath? It looks like ECC is not available in a laptop. True?
  8. Will this change, with X? X being windows compatable, virtualpc making mac pc compatable . . .
  9. The CD in SME's Publications and Technical References catalog is for "Cutdata V2.0 Machining Database" $495 non-SME-members. Which is not the Machining Data Handbook 3rd Edition. But you can get both for $560 non-SME-members. Anybody have the Cutdata V2.0 Machining Database CD. Any good?
  10. Anyone know of where I can buy one of these. Want to get optical finish on a polysulfone part. Thinkin of fly cutting. TIA Jeff
  11. I've read of this, or saw/heard of it on http://streamingteacher.com/home/index.aspx Sounds like a "feature", if it is known about. Jeff
  12. Would WinXP have the file backed-up somewhere?
  13. A microfluidics cartridge for portable biothreat detection. DoD. Have not asked that, good question. We're in the R&D shop for http://www.combimatrix.com/ Wholly owned by http://www.acaciaresearch.com/ We've bought from Notz Plastics, good product, resonable delivery; Astra Products sample quality is in the same league, but mucho $$ and uncoated is apparently made to order. Just wonderin if anyone at this excellent forum knows of other sources. JK
  14. Thanks CAM, but this is rare stuff. The closest they had was 1/16". Jeff
  15. Looking for a supplier of small quantities of very thin acrylic sheet, .2, .25 and .3mm. Pure acrylic, PMMA, polymethmethacrylate, not impact modified. Have found Hesaglas from Notz Plastics AG in Switzerland but they only go down to .5mm, Clarex brand from Astra Products, Inc. in New York, but they don't stock uncoated material and they get the stuff from Japan, 10 weeks and $$$. Cyro Industries in New Jersey apparently doesn't do as much acrylic anymore, and they want to sell thousands of pounds. Degussa in europe appears to be the same and the samples we got from them were impact modified. Thanks Jeff
  16. Thanks Hardmill, we like Sp3 and search has found others, just thought to ask the "Pros from Dover". JK
  17. Wonder if anyone has expeirence with diamond coated or DLC (diamond like coating) tools. We're using an sp3 Inc. brand DLC 1/32" drill in Macor machineable ceramic, .7" deep. This tool is working OK, just wonder if anyone has good luck with another manufacturer, that I could try and compare to sp3. Jeff
