  1. Hi Greenxman,

The version of Mastercam available on eMastercam.com is the Home Learning Edition/Demo software. It's available to customers who purchase our training materials and allows students to follow our books and training videos if they don't have access to a seat of Mastercam. It doesn't support chooks, you can't post, and files can only be saved as EMCX files which can only be opened in the HLE or an educational seat of Mastercam.

  2. Hello Paul,

He should be able to open MCX files in the HLE and work on them for learning purposes. If he tries to save his work he'll only be able to save as an EMCX file, which can only be opened in the HLE or an educational license of Mastercam.

  3. I have this document from the tech support department at In-House Solutions, it may help you:

Issue/ Error: Mastercam Crashing with On Board Graphics

***On Board graphic cards are not supported.***

However there are some customers that have been able to get them to work.

Disabling the hardware acceleration in Mastercam’s configuration can has allowed some user to use Mastercam without it crashing on open. This being said you may notice that the creation of toolpaths maybe slow due to this setting.

Since Mastercam is failing before you can access the Configuration you will need to manually modify it.

    Go to C:\Users\UserName\Documents\my mcamx8\CONFIG

    Open mcamx.config in NotePad

Go to line 4031 it should be defaulting to n please chance to a y

    mcamx config.jpg

Please do the same for mcamxm.config

However, it's possible your computer might be too old to run X8.

  4.   Hello Rob,

We have 2 books that cover importing geometry files created in other CAD package (including SolidWorks) and then creating toolpaths. The X8 versions of the books can be found here:

    http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/708-mastercam-x8-cad-import-mill-level-1-toolpaths-tutorial/

    http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/710-mastercam-x8-cad-import-mill-level-3-toolpaths-tutorial/

Each of the store pages has a free sample PDF you can download to get an idea of what topics are covered in each book and how we approach the material.

  5. I do not have experience in 5 axis machining ,you know maybe at some files for help mi   more to understand   this????

    Hey master80,

There's a variety of resources available to help you learn multiaxis toolpaths. For books, we offer a few:

    http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/711-mastercam-x8-intro-to-multiaxis-training-tutorial/

    http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/712-mastercam-x8-advanced-multiaxis-training-tutorial/

    http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/748-mastercam-x8-handbook-volume-3/

Each of the books at the above links has a free sample PDF you can download to see how the material is approached and what topics are covered in the books before buying anything. The handbook is more of a theory book and focuses more on the "what" and "why" as opposed to the "how" of the training tutorials.

You could also check with your local Mastercam reseller to see if they have any multiaxis training in your area coming up.

  6. The older versions of HLE disks that are given away with the In House Solutions books no longer work? Or its just not offered as a download?

X6 and earlier versions of our books will now be shipped out with an X7 HLE disc, and customers who purchase through the online store can also choose to download the X7 or X8 HLE.

  7. Hello twenty-two,

Unfortunately the X6 home learning edition software expired back in October of 2013 and is no longer available. The only options at this point are to do everything on the school's computers, or for the school to update to a newer version.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

  8. Thad: These are the Charles Davis handbooks, for sure. I believe In-House acquired the rights to them back around the X3 days and we've been updating them with each new Mastercam release.

  9. Hello Cooper,

If you're looking for instructor resource our Instructor kit for Mill covers 2D and 3D geometry creation and toolpaths for mill. You can check out the details of it here: http://www.emastercam.com/board/store/product/534-mastercam-x7-instructor-kit-for-mill/

If you're looking for a bit more explanation behind the "why's" of Mastercam, the Handbook Curriculum might be more up your alley:
