  1. Jay, Please don/t forget to bring the Inhouse 5 axis book to Westec, but don"t sell it to anyone else! Also, the other 4/5 axis book from Mastercam. Tia, Doug
  2. Dave, You need to stay up all night to make sure it does not happen again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doug the deprived
  3. I have the same thing from a DXF file I imported. It says 180 (approx) entities but they are not visible and they won't select in a window to allow deletion. Regards, Doug
  4. Jeff, Thanks for the suggestion, duly noted. I am just starting to use X and obviously need to organize my defaults. Best regards, Doug
  5. Dave, You got it, I never even thought of that. Thanks very much. Best regards, Doug
  6. Kelly, No, I checked that, but if I put in -.02 it goes to the correct depth. Regards, Doug
  7. I am using rough helix bore to remove the drill point from a .250dia. by .250 deep hole. Setting ruff 1 pass, .01 step down. It stays up .02 from my desired Z. Can someone check if this doues the same on their system or is just my problem? TIA, Doug
  8. QUOTE IMO - the offset numbers should always match the tool number by default, and change ONLY when the programmer chooses to change them. END I COULD NOT AGREE MORE. YES, I KNOW I AM SHOUTING. DOUG
  9. As I understand it, when cutting in a straight line the centerline feed and feed on the periphery of the cutter are the same. If you make a cut on the inside of a .75 dia hole with a .500 diameter endmill the edge of the cutter travels 3.142x.75=2.356 inches. The distance the centerline travels is (.75-.5)x3.142=.785 inches. Your feed rate is based on the .785 travel on centerline but the actual distance travelled at the cut is about 3 times further but cut in the same time. In effect tripling the feedrate you thought you were using. Hope this helps you. Best regards, Doug
  10. Hey Jay, You talkin' bout me in that second paragraph? Best regards, Doug
  11. Thanks, I will check out thase configurations. Doug
  12. Is anyone out there using Vericut on a DMU80T with a MillPlus control? I would like to know if it works well out of the box or requires a lot of work to get it right. TIA, Doug
  13. Jim, We just tried it, M18 did not work. The operator tried M8 then M9 then M18 and it came on. Don't ask me why? Doug
  14. Jim, We have a DMU80T for about 5 months. Are you saying the posted code does not look right or that it does not work correctly on the machine. I have programmed something where the cut takes place at the front of a circular part in mastercam but it posts out at the left side of the part. In the machine the G7 rotates the machine coordinate system to bring the cut back to the front of the part! It seems strange but because only the B axis tilts the C axis does some cunning things to compensate. There is a very smart gentleman called Gerhard Hetzler at their headquarters in Carolina. He is very good at explaining things, even on the phone. The software axis limits m56, m57 and m58 will probably drive you insane but we use m59 (basically no limits)and are very careful during the first run of the part. Hope this helps with the steep learning curve. Do you have vericut to check programs? I am using a post from Dave at Inhouse solutions which is working well. Best regards, Doug
  15. Pete and Jay, I was unable to repair the installation as I got a 1309 error when it could not find a file on the CD. Something to do with a hasp. Anyhow, I looked on CD and I could not find the file either. I either have a bad disk or CD burner. I will try again tomorrow with the disk from our other seat. I had copied the file from my work seat and when I copied that to the system32 directory the level dialog appeared. Many thanks for the prompt and helpful reply. Best regards, Doug
  16. Pete, Thanks, I will try that out tonight and report back. Best regards, Doug
  17. I have x installed on my home computer but I cannot open the levels window. I get the message "Member not found" and then I get the "cannot exit function" bit. ALT Z also fails to open the levels window> Any ideas before I try a new install. Equipment is 3.2 P4, 1 gig memory, FX500 card. This is virtually identical to my work setup. This also happened using intel ON board graphics Doug :
  18. Bruce, My experience on 5 axis programming is up to three programs now, but someone, Dave Thomson I think, told me that if the tool is cutting very close to the center of rotation it causes instability. Possibly very small numbers involved in the Math. We just got a DMU80T with renishaw, laser etc. Best regards, Doug
  19. There is a 1 day 5 axis class at Cad-Cam consulting in OC on Dec 20 Doug
  20. CODE_BREAKER and THAD, Thanks for the information, It's on the F11 key now and I can feel a certain circular muscle beginning to relax as I have been back in random crash mode in V9.1 sp everything for a couple of weeks. Thanks again, Doug
  21. Would someone please explain how to use the backup script for V9.1SP2 or point me to the information. Thanks, Doug
  22. I am at home but I think it is Screen, Change levels, select copy or move and the level you want to copy to. Then you get to select the geo and click done. Good luck, Doug
  23. Thanks for all the suggestions. I shall try them when I get back from vacation in 2 1/2 weeks. Best regards, Doug
