  1. Inconnel needs to be machined slow slow slow slow! It work hardens very quickly. Which tools are you using? Speeds and feeds? Ive had best results with Kennametal Harvii 2, Fullertons and Walters also work well.
  2. Thats because the geometry is not an actual radius, its a spline. I get that kind of geometry from surfaces. You need to import the model as a .STP( Step file) or as a .X_T(Parasolid file), that way its one solid(no pun intended) item, not a bunch of surfaces If you import it as IGES you get the geometry that you have. I hope it makes sence, its kinda hard for me to explain.
  3. Which toolpath routine are you using to program it?
  4. Thanks for the info guys, Ill look into it when I have more time, right now its an idea in progress
  5. Ive had good experience with the Mitsubishis. Walter also makes some really good small, deep hole drills. One thing about Walter is their help with feeds and speeds. I used to wor at a shop where we did a lot of inconnel, we had to drill a .062 hole about an inch deep, we got the Walter and use their recomended F&S and it was spot on, never broke one.
  6. I didnt say dont use stock, I use stock religiously. But for boring bar operations I like to have a little more control over where my tool is going to start cutting. I do it the way I described AND I use stock.
  7. Stock definition helps, but I dont like doing it that way. The way I do it is, I draw a vertical line that its at the radius of the drill from center line and make it part of my toolpath, that way the boring bar starts at the ID that the drill left, or just a bit below. Does that make any sense?
  8. What Im trying to is to reverse engineer an existing part, not inspect it.
  9. I did that years ago with am old Bridgeport Series II with a Heidenhein control. I used a drop indicator and programmed an incremental move everytime I pressed start, then I would write down the XYZ coordinates, and input them into a CAD package, we were copying shoe sole molds for a company that made composite inserts. Then I would inport the points cloud on Rhino3D and create the surface. Im just trying to avoid having to do that. Its not super accurate, its for something Im doing for myself, not a customer.
  10. Is there any way to use the Renishaw probe on my Haas VF3SSS to map a surface?
  11. I would use Surface rough pocket, but I would extend the edges to compensate for the radius of the tool
  12. Had to make some electrodes on copper last year on something of similar depth, but the drills were .046 IIRC. And I was doing them on a manual, the smaller the peck the better. Something I've used for years is Tap Magic...
  13. I will when I see him Ron, probably in couple weeks . Hes been busy, he was at SEMA, then after SEMA he was working in Anaheim for a week. I havent seen him in abut 2 months.
  14. Ok, I just tried the Vector to Raster C-Hook and it works really good! I just need a better image! Thanks for all the help guys!!
  15. QC as in Cadcam Consulting? That should be easy, the tech is my brother in law... themachinist, Ill try that. Theres a profile that Im trying to copy from an existing product. I've used Rhino3D in the past, but I dont have a copy.
  16. Is there any way to use a picture as the background on Mastercam? I'd like to use a picture to copy profiles.
  17. Ive had very good results from Helical, in my last job I tried the kennametal Harvi, very good on titanium and inconel
  18. Thats a problem with Haas machines. The way you get around it is you use both straight lead in and radius lead in. So the tool goes in straight for a bit and then it goes into the radius and machine wont alarm. I figured it out by chance, I had it happen with one toolpath but not another one and just looked at what was different on the mastercam side
