  1. Oh, I agree. But shouldn't the product be shipped with working posts? We had to have the sales guy come in with one of the tech guys so we could show him what was it that the post was doing wrong, or wasnt doing at all. We pay ******** for product and its not complete. Most shops dont have the time or the knowledge to be developing posts. Reading these forums Ive earn about Postability, but if I told my boss that there was a company that was selling good post his reaction would have been "I paid for MC!! they need to make it work, call them!" and he has a point.
  2. Any software is only as good as the user...However, at my last job they got a y axis lathe a few months before I left and the MC posts were severely limited.
  3. Well, I stand corrected then, at least about the type of work that you do.
  4. The 1st machining center I ever worked on was a Haas VF4 back in 2001 since then I had the chance to work on Fadals(ugh!) and Doosans, and then back to Haas. The latest Haas I worked on was a 2015 VF3, and I can tell you, from experience, that the machines have improved a LOT. Yet, as you say, they do suffer from some of the same problems of machines from 2006. I love Haas machines, they are easy to learn, easy to teach, and the controls are easy to navigate. Yet, even I know that they are far from the best, but for the smaller shops, and shops just starting out, they work because they are accessible. If you're a half decent machinist and you know that your new shop is going to be running thousand of parts instead of hundreds, then you buy the Makino, because you have the volume to be able to say "the machine will pay for itself". But Haas machines do well at prototype shops, with runs in the hundreds not the thousands. Like I said earlier, they have a place in the market.
  5. Thats all very well, but you have to think about the fact that not every shop has your type of parts, or your turnaround. Every shop is different, I can see why a Haas wouldn't fit your shop. But the Haas has a place in manufacturing, if it didn't the company wouldn't be as big as it is. The Makinos have a place as well. Remember, every shop is different, every shop is dealing with a different reality.

  7. No need to reinvent the wheel, just do it as fast as you can with as little spending on tooling as you can and charge as much as you can...
  8. Ive done it on Haas machines... try using a solid holder
  9. Ive never had to do it myself, but the way Ive seen it done is they broke the roughing into steps, after each step the tool would pull out and put an MOO so the operator could blow the chips and push start again
  10. You cant go full depth of cut with .125 step over? IMO(putting on the flame suit) full depth of cut with a smaller step over works better, you're utilizing the hole flute, not just the tip. Which machine is it?
  11. The extrusion would only work if the fins were across the hole part. If the part is like the one on the pic, with fins on one end but not the other, then the extrusion solution wont work.

  13. Sometimes when shops start small and the owner is the first employee and machinist shops will by what they can get for a good price as the shop grows.
  14. What about saving a file for each machine? Program is the same but you just change the control definition and save it with a different name. It'd be easier when making revisions you just save it again and it rewrites it.
  15. You had to go and open that can or worms! (ford and chevy) But yeah, Id never buy anything other than a Haas indexer for a Haas machine, if only because its just plug and play...
  16. Ok, Ive never used Helix Bore, always Countour Ramp...for xxxxs and giggles, and because we're nothing if we dont learn from others, I just tried a Helix Bore and I like it. It seems faster to program than the Ramp and I have as much control, so I stand corrected. But I do have a question, why is it that the finish pass starts at the bottom? What am I missing?
  17. We're not talking about Helix for entry, its about Helix toolpath...

The last time I used Helix I was working off of a program that someone else did, and our Haas had problems with the radius entry and cutter comp(it likes a straight entry), after 5 minutes of looking at it I switched to contour ramp and problem solved. At that point in time (X7) the problem was that I couldnt find how to change the entry. Perhaps I need to have another look at Helix bore, except that Ramp works for me, so I dont see the need.
  19. To each their own I guess. I just have never liked the way it works, 2D Contour Ramp works much better for me. It feels like I have much more control.
