  1. I did a search on this but couldn't find a clear enough answer... Here's my problem...... We have a new OKK VM5III. Sometimes I want to add a G61.1 to a toolpath and sometimes I don't. Is there a way for either MC or the post to ask if I want to add the G61.1 so that I don't have to manually add it? Thanks in advance for any help!!!
  2. +1 Newbie We use 2d swept toolpaths all the time and use a ball mill or any cutter with a corner radius. A .004 or .005 step over usually suffices as long as the chamfer is not cosmetic, then we would knock it down to .001 - .002.
  3. harry, Let us know how the form tapping goes in stainless!
  4. Millman, +10 on the attitude towards those who think there are 'dumb people'. Nothing irritates me more than a person who thinks that their way is the only way of thinking and that if other people can't follow their thought process then they must be dumb. In my experience, people with this attitude are usually insecure about either themselves or the quality of work they do. Instead of being open to all points of view and always in search of faster and better ways of doing things, they just plug away doing the same thing they always have, and then ridicule others when they make suggestions. This is nothing personal to anyone who has posted here, just my own observations. Everyone has something to contribute, be it the new guy who can't seem to get a simple program written or the old crusty veteran. You never know maybe this kid will solve a problem on a job that has been a pain in the butt for years. Then again, he may be a total waste of time and energy. Just my stream of consciousness on a Saturday morning. Sorry
  5. From mathworld.com: quote: Geometric objects lying in a common plane are said to be coplanar. quote: Two planes that do not intersect are said to be parallel. Two lines with the same x and y coordinates but different z coordinates are in parallel planes they are not coplanar. sorry to nitpick
  6. I just got the post mod CD this week and it is filled with tons of great stuff. As for info on post mods, this is a terrific place to ask questions and the response is usually faster and at least as accurate than that from your reseller. Dont worry about getting flamed for asking modification questions, just dont ask for a working post.
  7. quote: but hows this for freaky...I have an operator that likes to qualify his part (normally plate steel) having double sided taped the thing to the machine... We mill sheets of modified NXT-75, AKA teflon, and we hold them down with double sided tape. And they say nothing sticks to teflon!!!
  8. It sounds like your surface is twisted. I get this alot when I create -> Surface -> fillet -> surf/surf. For some reason when the two surfaces fillet to each other, they become twisted around and you can see the front and back of a surface in the same view. Kind of a pain in the butt to deal with but the suggestions given in previous posts should help
  9. Scrap?? And its my fault Surely you're joking!!!
  10. Just who is the reseller over there?
  11. We are getting a new OKK VM5 w/ meldas 635v controller. Just put in to my reseller for mpmeldas-1 post. Here's my question. Does this post need editing for this controller? The machine wont be here until December so I can't experiment yet. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  12. Jaws, Can we also talk about tag team championship scrabble? In all seriousness, this forum was designed to help the MasterCam community with questions about the software. While it sometimes heads into other waters, its purpose is to discuss issues relating to MasterCam.
  13. quote: Christ, that's even worse that the original question. There's a task that I see being performed on a regular basis... This whole thread is about something you would never do on any basis never mind a regular basis. It's just thrown out there to make you think.
  14. Dave, Can I come and work for you?
  15. Good being the operative phrase.
  16. Harry, Maybe good Engine EAR's do solve real world problems and this one just happens to be BS???
  17. Bullines, quote: I'm just sticking up for the, ahem, "college boys" Hey.. no hard feelings!! jbel journeyman tool and die maker mastercam programmer 3rd year ME student
  18. chris m, quote: Yea, yea it is an acedemic bs question, but I'm trying to make them think. Not an easy thing to do everyone wants the easy way out..... maybe they will start to see the relationships between tool, work piece, machine..... sometimes there just aren't any easy answers. email- [email protected] (Iowa State University Mechanical Engineering) That being said... Who in the world relates horse power specific for steel to anything????? This is exactly where book smarts and real life diverge from each other. While this may in some way prove that there sometimes aren't any easy answers, it also instills in college boy the misguided perception that horsepower specific for steel matters to someone, somewhere, besides some college prof.
  19. quote: A well-designed post-secondary curriculum will teach the students how to think to solve any given problem that may arise and not to rely soley on precedent. Just because college boy knows how to solve a problem doesn't mean he still wont try to rely on precedent and find the 'easy' way out. Besides isn't that what engineers do? Design a product with the least number of new and unproven features, therefore herlping to assure reliability.
  20. How does this sound? Spindle Speed (RPM): 12(in/ft) * 360 (ft/min) ------------------------ Pi * Cylinder Dia. (in) 1375.2 = -------------------- (Rev/Min) CD (cylinder dia) Feed Rate (in/rev): 8 (in/min) -------------------- = 1375.2/(CD)(rev/min) = 0.0058*(CD) (in/rev) MRR: 10 HP ---------------------- 0.60 (hp * min / in^3) = 16.67 (in^3 / min) Dia before and after: (boy this is getting long How about 0.4 in less than the start??
