  1. We have a meldas 600 series controller that is windows based. If you have a similar configuation you can just connect the machine to your network and map the hard drive. For me the hard drive on the cnc appears on my network as just another drive. All i have to do is drag and drop my programs. Hope this helps...
  2. WOW!!! That looks really cool!!!! Can't download that kind of stuff at work but as soon as I get home tonite I gettin it
  3. Smit, Also, you need to do a search of the forum for 'mc9rs.dll' and then download the replacement file. The file that came with Mcam spaces the buttons close together. The replacement download file will separate them.
  4. What I did was move my old mc9rs.dll to another folder and then pasted the new mc9rs.dll into the main Mcam9 folder. I did this with Mastercam closed. Then I started Mastercam and the operation manager had the buttons separated. It is not a c-hook that you run once Mcam is already running, instead it is utilized by Mastercam at program launch.
  5. Did the search for mc9rs.dll and found it. It works great!! Thad, sorry about the email thing, its changed now.
  6. why, Why, WHY!!!!!!!! Is regen right next to backplot in the operations manager?????? What should have been a 10 second backplot turned into a 25 minute toolpath regeneration by one simple misclick of the mouse. And the worst part is that its my own fault!! This is one big bonk going out to ME ARGGGGGGGGGGH
  7. One more thing. USE THE SPEEDS AND FEEDS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. They may seem high at first but when you apply them correctly and see the results you'll never go back again.
  8. Rookie, These SGS Turbo Carb ball mills are the shiznit for milling hardened steel. There are speed and feed recommendations on the last page. We mill Rc 42-46 all the time with the 3/8" and 1/4" balls and can get mirror finish results when we need to. Definitely go with the TiAlN coating. It has tripled to quadrupled our tool life with a better finish to boot. You should see better finish with air blast. I don't know about the OSG stuff but if it is as good as their other products they should work well too.
  9. Try: Create --> Next Menu --> Letters There are several fonts in there that are machine friendly. Scalability also. hope this hepls!!!
  10. Boy I wish CNC Software would contact me by email with all the hush hush stuff
  11. All that the SGS website says is quote: Avoid straight plunging - ramp or spiral plunge into pocketsNot a lot of info there. Helixing in will always be easier on your machine than ramping and will maintain higher feedrates. I personally have never tried these mills. Are they that much better? We do a lot of 3D surfacing and we use Turbo-Carb ball mills and really like them. I notice that the Z-Carb's are 4 flute ball mills. Has anyone compared them to Turbo-carb's??
  12. Keithm, quote: I used a fette 1"ball nose .255 deep .050 step over at 9000 rpm and 250 inches per min. Look out becase the chips will be ever where What machine are you using to do that??
  13. Here is the web site of A. Finlk & Sons Co. I think it has the information you need. These guys have an excellent reputation in the forging industry. I think they make mostly tool steels and the like. Be careful of the lead time that they quote you.
  14. I dont know what you guys are talking about. I have found true love with everyone that I work with!
  15. I said this about machining tungsten and i will say it about this YUCK!!!
  16. We use SGS Inc. taper end mills exclusively. Fantastic product, consistent and they have great coatings too. Try them here. On page 25 and 33.
  17. You can also turn off posting for any checked operation in the operations manager by pressing 'Alt-P'
  18. I think that an entry helix is the best way to go here. It saves the drilling operation and there is no need to worry about point entry. On the rough parameters page of surface rough pocket, check the 'Entry-helix' box under entry options and go from there. Hope this helps
  19. Out of about 8 operators we have about two decent guys. By decent i mean that they can be trusted to indicate a part in flat and square when they put it in a vise. We run lots of the same stuff over and over and most with long cycle times (4-6 or even 8 hours). With four machines on the floor and a 24-7 operation this means that if one operator is working alone on a shift he may have to do two or three setups on his shift. Four if he has a rough day. Our guys dont care enough to even get through only a couple setups a shift. OFTEN machines sit when they should be up and running. I can do one of these setup in 30 minutes and I don't do them everyday. So, on first shift there are 4 operators and 4 machines but the machines STILL sit when they are done. ONE GUY ONE MACHINE, and they are sitting idle!!! On Saturdays and Sundays I come in for the OT and can easily run three machines, four if I hustle, and still have BS time. I mean COME ON doesn't anybody care?? And let's not even talk about the infighting between different shifts. If I hear "The night shift guys screwed up again" or "I'm one guy on night shift and I do as much work as 4 guys on days" or "Hey this job is screwed up, it must have been run on night shift" ever again I just might have a nervous breakdown. People are very fast to point out the errors of others but never quite able to step up to the plate and admit it when they make an error. Thank you for allowing me the time to vent..
  20. +1 on the helix enrty. Works every time!!!
