  1. Thank You James, that certainly helps.
  2. when I use verify, and create a .stl file for future ops. I get a .lwn file with the same name in the same directory. Is this normal, or have I done this wrong? is the .lwn file needed? it is a large file, and if I dont need it to use the .stl file on another pc then I really would like to get rid of it.
  3. congratulations Jamman, I've never known anything as rewarding as my two boys. make all the moments count, it seems like over night and he's in HS.
  4. quote: I bet that seat is cooooooooooooooooooold in the morning. was - 17 night before last, now the big storm is in, and this am I couldn't see any bikes there. had to move them out of the garage to work on my truck one night, next morn that was what I found. I just went back to bed.
  5. I dont want a nickel, I just wanta ride my motorcycle,,
  6. I too have seen this type of problem. lost three groups once and all ops were in the first group. But I have noticed this when I was using a new WCS. Also had the veiws get messed up when i try to backplot and I'm not using one of the standard views. I did a reinstall from the 9.1 sp2 cd and still have these problems occasionally. I posted a file to the ftp site a while back, where the wcs was boncked from the geo. If I tryed to rotate the view, the entities would rotate one direction and the wcs would rotate the opposite. I put in the latest video drivers, and have all the latest patches for w2k pro. But like you I can't recreate it on demand. Sure would like to know how to get around this one.
  7. sorry Noel, wish I could help.
  8. what Novell client are you running? are you running tcpip or ipx? have you tried a different novell client or better yet, without the novell client? which version of Novell are running?
  9. Man, this makes me feel old. always into mechanical stuff when i was young, had my first harley at 12, rode it t shool at 14. always taken things apart to see how they ticked. when i had to have a job, since my dad had been a machinist, it just seemed like the thing to do. went to work for hutson corp, a primary parts supplier for bell helicopter, running a drill press on a job that nobody wanted to run of course. they were getting about 12 parts a shift the way it was, when i ran that job last i was getting 72 parts a shift. going to college at the time taking remote terminal programming ( there were no pc's then, only mainframes with remote access). Also studied electronics about then. so when I finally got onto the nc's I was able to work on the systems when there was a problem. After a few years I went to work for a prototype shop and had to do my own programming, here I was introduced to compact language. no GUI just a remote terminal with a modem tied to a computer. It was all math , and I was always good at it. It was like solving puzzles to me. But now I could see the results of the puzzle in my hand. I spent some time traveling around the country job shopping, my wife and I and two '63 panheads. then a head hunter found me and offered me a job in the northwest, so I took it. I was doing five ax work with the compact II at this time, My favorite was the sculpturing of three dimensional parts for the aerospace themes. I was also apattering some fortrann 77 in there, then went to UG. took some management positions while I was there, but my wife died while I was there, at the age of 39. Had some hard time with that, and after 20 years lost that job. so I went to work as a network administrator for a few years for a mfg company, but cutbacks for the economy happened, and about six months ago I was offered this job. first time I've seen MC, so there has definitly been a learning curve here. not as easy as it used to be, but I still seem to pick it up okay. while I was an admin I picked up VB6, so that should help once I get more of the MC under my belt. Gotta love this forum though, of all the ones I've used.
  10. okay, I gotit. dont know why this seemed so confusing to me? age? naaaw
  11. I'm sorry, I didn't explain this very well, I'm talking about the name inside the nc file, not for the nc file. O0040 (PROGRAM NAME - 0003-13 MONITOR 1ST OP PROGRAMMED BY - ) (DATE=DD-MM-YY - 12-12-03 TIME=HH:MM - 14:00 ) N1 G20 N2 G0 G17 G40 G49 G80 G90 N3 G91 G28 Z0. ( 4" FACE MILL W/ 45' LEAD IN TOOL - 20 DIA. OFF. - 20 LEN. - 20 DIA. - 4. ) ( FACE PART TO CLEAN UP ) N4 T20 N5 M6 N6 G0 G90 G54 X-33.3831 Y19.9431 S3000 M3 but I really do appreciate your response.
  12. the program name at the top of the nc file is apparently taken from the name of the group at the time the first operation is created, however, renaming of the group does not alter the name in the nc file. where would this be stored at? and how may I change it after the operations have been created? w2k pro 9.1 level3 sp2
  13. I had a component for a hydraulic actuator for a reputable international company, building a commercial plane, sent me a print. when I went to model it, there was a section that couldn't be modeled. so I called the buyer, who put me through to their engineer, who said he would get right back to me. I recieved an e-mail from him saying that he spoke with the people in his cad department and they had concurred, it could not be modeled. SO he attached 4 photo's and the instructions were "make it look like this". I'll never forgget the quality manager's face when I gave him the e-mail and the photo's and informed him that "this is your inspection criteria"
  14. One thing that I haven't read, did he make any attempt to use other resources (help file?) before asking you for help? If he is not willing to put forth that much effort on his own, rather than tapping on other people up front, then there is a problem here. the one thing of all he should have learned is how to use those help resources. tomany times I've seen someone use others to get their job done, and then if something is wrong, it's some how not their fault. One guy swore that someone was sabatoging his programs before they ran, I tried to ignore that, so he went to the man upstairs. He wasn't smart enough to know that the system was tracking revisions and dates and times. the one thing i like most about the people in this forum, is they help those who are trying to help themselves.
  15. thanks guys, I really am glad this forum is here.
  16. in the mill, say a three sided boundary, but you want the tool to overlap the second entity to clean up. there would be thre entities in the chain, leave .005 on one and three, but -.3 on #two
  17. is it possible to change the stock on one member of a chain, so that it's different than the rest of the chain?
  18. are you using any check surfaces?
  19. there is an even greater problem with this that worries me. by having so much produced outside of your own country, you become more and more dependent on others for your own survival, thus weakening your own nation. We also have huge numbers of companys here, which are owned by other countrys. this so they can be eligible for some contracts here. meanwhile the layoffs go on.
  20. quote: I find when i open the surfaces look strange, then I go Alt-N then set it to WCS op2 and I get this.. that is corect, and the way it originally was quote: You have alot of duplicate and overlapping entities in the file. When I Delete/Duplicate/Entities or run the ram saver it gets rid of around 650 entities and I can see tons of overlapping entities still there, not exact duplicates of each other but representing the same surface edge. I'm not sure why theyre all there or if you need them for toolpaths, but I would get rid of all the geometry (except your point that OP2 WCS is dependent on) and remake those extra entities were created when this went bonkers. the only other wcs i used for paths was the sys for top. quote: after I hit fit screen and correct it...I can't get it to go screwy again... maybe it is something system related.. i found that also until i reopened the file, then it was boinked again.
  21. soooo, if i zoom again, or rotate something off screen, then it goes awry again. okay, now how to fix it?
