  1. The open pocket method sucks. Picking the cutting method and percentage of stepover for the geometry I'm cutting works best for me.
  2. Sorry Bro, Didn't know you were a Beta Tester. I have no patience for software that contains errors.
  3. I always wait to update software because there are always problems out of the gate. I don't like to be a guinea pig.
  4. quote: Don't forget that you CAN'T use WEAR comp if you choose to use the Highfeed option - it will do wierd things to you (you need to use computer comp).+1000 Gary, I hear it will not be fixed in X.
  5. The FTP site is worth more than 2 bucks! Can you post an address to send a check to? I can't use the credit cards or the wife will kick my A$$ out to the dog house. Even for a few bucks!
  6. I heard he drives a cab in New York and can't understand why nobody recognizes him!
  7. Hey Van Halen Diver Down!
  8. Roll it, I only cut tap thru holes.
  9. I leave .002-.005 on the hole walls. Hold reamers in collets. Indicate them in. 1/8 = 180 sfm. /.005 ipr. I don't use drill chucks.
  10. cmr, I've been using TG collet holders. They grip very well. I indicate the bottom of the blade. Tap on the arbor to get it to run straight. I've had a lot of +.003/-.000 slots lately. It's worked for me.
  11. I indicate them in... I had a .032" thick carbide saw shatter at high rpm once. Had to pick shards out of the plexiglass windows on the vmc.
  12. MDI, G53 Z0, WRITE, CYCLE START, is another way but the NEXT TOOL button is the shazzit!
  13. Very sharp tools are a must! The feed rates should be as high as possible to avoid pushing the material around. Drop your speeds if you must.
  14. If you must use HSS drills, check for runout. After you drill and some holes, check the drill point under magnification. If the drill margins are burning, slow your speed. If they are chipping slow your feed. This works for me, when i'm having trouble with tool life. Take a much closer look at the variables involved.
  15. Lars, Use cobalt stub drills and check for runout. With hard materials I try to use the next size up from the recomended drill size. This will prolong the tap life. But you must check and recheck the minor diameter!
  16. Jim, It suits me, having to wrestle this computer for 12 hours a day.
  17. Thanks Jim, Got a titanium prototype to do next week.
  18. Lars, The only time I cut tap are in plastics and thru holes. I rollform 2024 al, 6061 al, 7075 al, 1018 stl, 303 sst, 304 sst, A2 stl, 416 sst, 440c, and titanium. Roll form tap break less often too.
  19. Kevin, That's the scared feed and speed!, for prototype. For production, S1524 F75. I know for a fact our VF-0 will not handle the later.
  20. Lars, No chips, stronger thread due to compacted material, You must really watch the minor diameter though!
  21. Use a 7.4mm drill, Here is the feed and speed I would use. S508 F25.
  22. motodog, I have had trouble rollform tapping bigger sized threads on my Haas VF-0 due to lack of torque. I never use floating tap holders when I rigid tap. I rollform all blind holes, and cut tap thru holes. It works out great. Don't use the same sized drill for cut tapping! Is your program inch or metric?
  23. I use a Cruzer USB Flash Drive, Plug it in my USB port and back up every day. It's attached to my keychain. When I get home I download. Once a month I'll burn all my work files on CD. I learned my lesson when I lost 3 months of work.
