  1. I find solids machining is a whole lot easier than surface machining in mcam. This assumes the solid is a good mcam solid. The basic reason is that a solid is one entity that is aware of itself and has one orientation. This explanation could be expanded and I'm sure there are other forum members who feel the exact opposite.
  2. If they do not provide the additional information just give them what they model - a .201 diamete hole. That will make them aware of the need for more information.
  3. Don't they also offer and e-drawings for pro-e download.
  4. The face imprinting error is usually due to a common face used by both solids in the boolean operation. I would make your solid for the insert longer than the part solid. The newly created insert solid will have it's lenght limited by the part solid anyway. It is never good for solids that will be used in boolean operations to be exactly the same size.
  5. I still do not understand the need to specify drive and check surfaces (faces) when using a solid. I select the entire solid and use containment boundaries. Gets the job done without gouges.
  6. Yes it is a weaker cousin, but a whole lot cheaper and since I send all of my stuff to my CAM guy for programming it eliminates the translation. He then also has the solid history tree to manipulate if necessary.

    Plotting

Other forum members have complaing about 100% plotting. The scale in the lower left corner always measures exactly 1.000 but the geometry is usually not 100% but the .9980179 that is displayed above the scale line. True 100% is a matter of scaling geometry then plotting. For many plots, the 99.8% thing works, but for those producing comparator charts it is a PITA.
  8. I migrated my settings and they were properly placed int the new -MR2 folder but the default name was not replaced by my setting stored with a different name. Once I picked the proper named setting to use, all was well again.

    Plotting

I just discovered that if you lmb click inside the small preview on the print page where you want the center of the plot to be, then click preview, it will shift the image. If you close the preview the small image in the print page will also move
  10. Revers that last statement, The area occupied by parts divided by the sheet size.
  11. I do not use nesting but it would seem that the calculation should be the size of sheet divided by space occupied by parts.

    Plotting

The position of the geometry on the graqphics screen is waht I see in the preview. I do not need to anchor a corner or anything. When plotting, I do need to go into proerties to set paper size, scale, etc.
  13. It would seem that the issue is with the V8 file since you can strip all V8 toolpaths, redo in V9, and all posts OK. I would see if the V8 file has a miscellaneous value defined that is not needed in V9. It may be easier to delete one toolpath at a time and repost. Once the error goes away, you will know which toolpath is causing the error. Then you can try and zero in on it better. Just a suggestion,
  14. Welcome machinhead. That Deep Purple album was one of my favorites in the 70's.
  15. Like I said though, no info on the web site on how to get it. I couldn't find any info other than the PDF file
  16. I guess it is a teaser, no download or info on how to get it?
  17. So it sounds like you are productive and happy with the toolpaths Brian. I visited the Nypro facility in Massachusetts a couple of years ago. Your company does some real good moldmaking. Thanks for the feedback from all who replied.
  18. Thanks for your input John & John. Unfortunately, we do not have a machine that can fully utilize "highspeed machining" but we do have problems with tool breakage due to inconsistent chip loads.
  19. Now that we have a handle on using X like we did in V9, our next step is to utilize the high speed toolpaths. I am interested in comments from people that are using the new toolpaths or that have tried them. Positive and negative (if any)feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Laszlo
  20. I would suggest going to solids. Most of your projects will get easier with solids.
  21. I have the opposite problem. My notes always print darker than my dimensions, but I did not see a place to change the attributes.
  22. My crashes have been eliminated since I checked the "Disable hardware acceleration" box in the configuration -> screen page.
  23. Stephen, the screen does not flash. It happens when I use the level manager to turn off levels I am not using. The level manager window stays up and as lines are erased, the level manager window background gets over written by the erased entities in the background color. Without the gradient background, it is a little faster but still is not immediate. I do have the hardware acceleration turned off since this setting prevents crashes.
  24. I use a gradient backgroud setting and do not have a problem with the drag function but when I turn a level off that was displayed it takes forever to "erase" the entities that are no longer displayed.
  25. I have not attemted it but couldn't the same thing have been done in mastercam? Create surfaces from the inside faces, flat surface on the bottom, stitch together, and fillet are all operations that can be done in MC.
