Spring pass

Good Afternoon all,

In milling, I have two holes the that we bore to finish size.

Parts ran, operator uploaded proven program and I am evaluating  it.

On the bored holes the operator added a L2 to each of the 2 location.

I said OK needed a ghost pass.

In MasterCam I added the locations again so now MasterCam has four holes to bore.

1st and 2nd then moves for 3rd and 4th.

Plots good but only posts out 2 locations.

Any ideas on why it will not bore twice in the same spot?

Thanks

Hi John,

I do not know where to find this.

I believe that is a drilling search parameter from the add points dialog.

If you are using contour there is a built in spring pass function or something.

we  use a misc integer to do repeats. you have to edit the post, or copy the operation

we use k but you would change to L

pdrillcommon post block

if drillcyc$ > 3 | drillcyc$ < 8, #SET REPEATS FOR BORE CYCLES
      #if drillcyc$ > 3,
        [
        result = nwadrs(strk, drl_prm1$)
        result = newfs(2, drl_prm1$)

drill cycle

      pdrlcommonb
      pcan1, pbld, n$, *sgdrlref, *sgdrill, pxout, pyout, pfzout, pcout,

Thanks guys,

I'm not sure if it was in older versions but in 2022 in the hole def area I was able to add L2 to each hole and it bored, bored moved to next hole and bored, bored and went home,

in the nc code only.

Backplot only showed the boring of 2 holes, one time only.

Not great by any means but effective.

What John & Byte are talking about is this option here when you're selecting the geometry:

image.png.fc33eaaa0c544817ddcf34f0813af6dd.png

That will intentionally throw away a duplicate point (duplicate in this case being in the same axis, but a different Z height).

If you're trying to select the same exact point twice, it will not allow that.  The second time you click it will deselect it.  You'd have to use a separate cycle or, if this is something you do often, I'd recommend adding the option directly to your boring cycle.  Your reseller should be able to do it in a few minutes for you if you're not comfortable editing your post.   That would allow you very easily have 4 spring passes if you wanted them.
