Prototrak Files

I know there has been alot of discussion on this topic, but I can't find my answers in any of the post. I am gonna send files to my prototrak via RS232. When I post my toolpaths, what extension should I use??? (.GCD, .PT4, .MX3,)????

if the code is g-code, use .cam

 

if it is conversational, like the Mastercam MX2 post uses, then use .MX2 or .MX3.

Hi Jammer,

 

When I post to the Prototraks in our toolroom I use .MX2 for the 2 axis programs and .cam for the MX3 programs. The post for the MX2 out of the MC disc forces a .MX2 extension, I changed my MX3 post to force a .cam so I don't have to remember to.

Hi Jammer again,

I did'nt read your post very well the first time,

when using RS232 .TXT is right, like Jay said. Since I found that I could take the floppy dics out of the back of the control box I've been putting files directly on the disc in my computer. Thats when I use the extensions in my first post.

Greg, are you using a modified post? I just did an install and the proto post right of the cd drove mx 2 & 3 machines from cable and disk great.

Trevor, How are ya? Things goin well I hope. No, it's not a modified post. Just a stock one from the disk I think.

I use gcd when posting to our mx3 trak thru the network

My post file for my mx2 doesn't let me do arcs. I think it is corrupt somehow. Does anyone have a mx2 post file they could send me?

please read the FAQ man, asking for a post on the forum is a no-no

 

Check with your reseller

 

BTW, your reseller should be able to help show you HOW that post probably CAN output arcs

I input all via .cam and seem to have zero issues.

i use .gcd for large 3-d files its for reading gcode

I use .cam for anything I want to see in the machines graphics or be able to edit at the machine.

I have a MX3 and it always used a .cam ext on 2D and .dnc with 3D but after downloading the newer software from their website it uses .nc ext. I also have to enable DOS to make it communicate with MCAM X
