Preventing Plunge with Facing Mill

Is there anyway to safeguard against plunging with a face mill that can not do this? I haven't done this for some time but it's just a matter of time before I have a brain-fart and try to burough into something with my 2" Mitsu ASX400.

I was hoping maybe a hand would reach out of the monitor and whack me on the back of the head and say in Red Formans voice "DUMB xxxx!" But anything would be fine.. bonk.gif

I should clarify the "lifetime" warranty...I believe it is offically a 1 year warranty, but the Mitsu dealers will back date the purchase date to within the year and submit the busted tool for replacement.

They make their $$$ in inserts, and it's in their best interest to make sure you have a body to put them in! Kinda like a lifetime guarantee of insert sales for them.

My ASX was 2 or 3 years old when I wreck'd it.

On pocketing toggle the "keep tool down" button and you won't plunge into stock anymore. I trashed a few face mills myself rolleyes.gifbonk.gif

While using face mill, always go for ramp or helix

+1 to that cheers.gif ..don't forget to togle the "skip" button.

I use 2" face mills to rough on 3-d work all everyday over here.

All you have to do is use that "skip" button and

all will be good.....

Plunging outside of stock is not advisable when using HSMing tech's. Inserts won't last near as long.

Always ramp for better tool-life.
