SLI, PCI Express, HT Technology, Raid-0, Raid1, or Raid+1

Speaking stricly Mastercam and not Windows in general:

SLI - probably very little

PCI Express - large files like big Solids or lots of Surfaces, sure

HT - very little

RAID0, RAID1 or RAID+1 - much faster when hd access is needed (opening, saving, crunching, etc)

I have a Xeon 3.2 at work and a Pentium 3.2Exteme

Edition ( 2meg L3cache) at home.

Both machines have 2g of ram

The Xeom has a new PCiExpress videocard

and a better hard drive (Raptor 10k rpm 73g)

The PC magazines say the Extreme Edition chips

are a ripoff and a marketing gimic

I run the same large MC files at home and work on a daily basis and the P3.2EE eats the Xeon's

lunch.

There is a notable difference in both speed and

stability.

My dream system would be dual 3.4EE processors

Quadro 3400 video card

4 gig of ram

2 73 gig SCSI hard drives

a SpaceBall

and dual 20.1in Dell flatscreens.

Edit: some of AMD's new chips are suppossed to

smoke Intel in CAD/CAM apps, but I'm not familiar

with AMD's product line.

Could anyone give me some advise on how to speed up a new workstation that is currently loading MasterCam Ver. 9 slowly. Our client say's it is loading the MasterCam Ver. 9 slower that his older system.

The new system is a Hewlett Packard xw8200 with the following hardware under the hood:

. Windows XP Professional

. 2.80GHz/1MB Xeon 800 FSB

. MS Office Small Business Edition

. 4GB(4x1GB)DDR2-400 ECC

. Dual 36GB U320 SCSI HD

. NVIDIA Quadro FX1300

Now with all of this under the hood, Why would someone say that the process of loading MasterCam Ver. 9 would be slow? any suggestions from you guy'/gal's?

Are they running a network hasp???

I have a network licensed postproccessor that is

not setup properly. It takes a minute or more

to find the network server, validate the license and launch.

Delete all the Office stuff from Programs/Startup

I also turn off all mouse themes and set Visual Effects for best performance.

PCI Express is the latest graphics interface.. Going to become the dominant one.. just built a new computer with a PCI-e graphics card.. the 3Dmark03 graphics benchmark test results I get are much higher than the average AGP 8X with the same chipset card. I really wanted to get a PCI-E card, and an AMD processor, but they don't make very many amd motherboards with a PCI-E graphics yet, they are in development.(1 mobo available last I saw, and couldn't find a place to buy that board) So I had to settle for a Intel chip.. Which is still quite nice..
