Simply, put. Get the fastest CPU with the most cache that you can afford. Get the most RAM that you can afford (1GB or more). Get a proper workstation class video card like something from nVIDIA's QuadroFX line. Get the fastest hard drives that you can afford (SATA or SCSI). The rest doesn't matter as much.

Lobstaman,

With your handle I was mistaking you for someone in New England. biggrin.gif Welcome to the forum. DavidB is directing you to the forum topic search link, directly below the "New Poll" button above the topic box, just to the right of the large Mastercam logo. Type in the words CAD Workstation for your search terms and you'll be sure to find much info. HTH cheers.gif

I've got a P3.2 EE Dell workstation at home

and a 3.2 Xeon Dell workstation at work.

Other than that, the 2 machines are nearly identical.

The Pentium smokes the Xeon all day long.

Bullines says its the 2meg L3 cache on the proccessor that makes the difference.

I've bought 3 machines from the Dell Outlet and never had trouble with any of them

Dell Outlet Store

edit: just noticed the ATI card.

That will give you trouble with Mastercam

The Quadro 3400 Dell puts on their workstation

is as good as it gets for Mastercam
