mcx tan 2 arcs

I have been trying for an hour or so to figure how to create a line tangent to 2 arcs v9 had that option but i cant find it in any mcx refs.

Create line endpoints. It will snap to tangent.

Dont forget about the use of the autocursor as well. You can turn on and off what you do and dont need as you go so you dont have to scroll all over the country to find what you need.

On the ribbon bar (after you pick the create line function) just to the left of the apply button (blue circle with white cross there is a line drawn tangent to an arc... click this then click on the arcs.

I found the answer to my own question. the tangent button must be pushed in. if you select and de select the tangent button you can see a slight inny outy effect of the button .thanks David at Cimtech in Fife Wa

As stated in another thread by I believe Ron the crazy millman. Create line tangent to 2 is a fillet. You could just use the fillet option.

.....i read this topic....i played with auto cursor......i tried 50 times.....I CANNOT create a line tangent to 2 arcs.

 

I can create a line tangent from a point.

 

I have 2 diameters on my screen, I want to create a line tangent from one to the other.

 

I select create-line-endpoints....I then select the tangent icon on the ribbon bar, my auto cursor is set to tangent only.....It prompts me for the 1st endpoint, (but the tangent visual cue isn't active), I can only select points. Once I select a point the tangent visual cue becomes active for my 2nd point.

 

How do I select my 1st arc????

 

This should be simple....1-2-3

Just select create-line-endpoints then select your arc... select the tangent,(mine is default selected I think. make sure it looks recessed, if in doubt try selecting it again to make sure it's selected) it will automatically make it tangent to the arc, then select the 2nd arc where you want the tangent point to.

Select the 1st arc w/ the tangent button on , then do the same w/ the 2nd arc , but make sure the arc is highlighted, not the cursor showing some endpoint position, or perhaps place the cursor near enough so that the whole 2nd arc is

highlighted.

charlie, the arc does not highlite when selecting 1st point, it does highlite when selecting 2nd point though

the 1st arc (circle) highlights for me, but sometimes the 2nd one won't unless I toggle the tangent button a couple of times

I just created a 135 degree arc to go along w/ my 2 circles and it highlighted the 1st time for the 1st arc, but when I tried it again I could only get the circles to highlight.

The partial highlighted for the 2nd arc pick , however !??!

Just tried it again and now the partial and only one circle will highlight

....create-line-endpoints....then select the tangent icon......

 

it should then prompt you to select entity, it doesn't, ( this is the problem ) it prompts you to select point...

 

Is this a bug?

How do we proceed?

when it asks for an endpoint, get close to an arc and see if the arc highlights for you, if it does this is your first "point". As long as your auto cursor isn't locked on a point on the arc (endpoint, midpoint, quadrant, etc...) you can use the mouse to movwe the tangent line around the arc.

If I have 2 arcs on the screen and select create line... tangent icon pressed. I can pick the first arc (highlighted) as long as I don't oick an auto cursor point it gives me a line on the arc circumference spin around and its always tangent.... go over to the next arc and it highlights and again as long as I do not pick an AC point it will be tangent.

john/bill....my 1st arc does not highlite, my visual cue does not change to tangent on my 1st arc....

 

my 2nd arc highlites & my visual cue changes to tangent for my 2nd arc

I don't get a tangent visual cue on either 1st or 2nd arc even after checking the visual cue settings, but now both circles will highlight.

I don't recall changing anything ???
