  1. I am about to attempt my first modification of a post processor in V9.1 Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Let's see now. When I was a kid I used to take small dc motors and run them at 2-3 times the rated voltage. They went real fast, just not for too long. Evil smile not shown.
  3. Sounds like some stuff I made pattern toolilng for some years ago. A mixture of aluminum and carbide. We prototyped track shoes for the M1A1 tank. Cast to size, no machining. Also made some large patterns for nat. gas pumps. Those were machined somewhere down south. Good f-in luck Chris
  4. In version 9 go to analize - surfaces - all surfaces. set the tolerance to .0005 or less. see if the model checks out OK. If you have bad surfaces MC can spend time and memory trying to crunch a good toolpath and you can get that error message. Look for small thin surfaces that twist over on themselves.
  5. Pine is softer and weaker than mahogany. Use lighter cuts and faster feeds. Consider using Ren Shape planks. Costs more but cuts better. No grain problems.
  6. Came to work today to find a new 24" wide screen monitor. (Yeah!) Onr problem, now my circles look like ovals. I know there is a way to calibrate the screen but I cannot remember how. Anybody out there have any ideas? Mike PS this is for V9
  7. Scotty, Give B&H Pattern in Appleton, WI a call, ask for Jim. They cut that stuff literally day and night. Like others said, it's ductile iron. The 65-45-12 designation refers to it's tensile strength etc. It machines quite well dry.
  8. Pattern industry in the crapper in Canada also? I feel your pain Lee. After many years in the pattern/foundry industry I moved into mold work. Some learning curve. Not too bad. Try looking in the plastics or rubber molding areas.
  9. How about going to a 7075 aluminum grade?
  10. I may be wrong. Check out the thread on converting GE3 to X2 files.
  11. I got a bad feeling you may be SOL. I believe one at a time is the only way.
  12. Make sure you have "optimize" unchecked
  13. "I came over from AutoCad and Inventor and picked it up pretty quickly. There are a lot of strange things to get used to when drawing with curves and things in MC compared to AutoCAD. But you will get " Funny, I always thought the way AC did things was funny.
  14. Thanks, mission accomplished.
  15. I have 128 cavity numbers that must be created on a specific arc, rotated and mirrored into position. It would be much easier if it was a font.
  16. I need to create a special font for engraving. Only need numbers 1 - 0 I can draw the geometry but how do I save it as a font?
  17. "I have a 3D Contour that I want to mill with a 1" Ball Mill. The contour is a curve at the top edge of a 1/2 radius surface. I programmed with comp set to center of tool and it backplots fine, but it posts out 1/2" high." "I know it's something simple, just don't do this often enough." I assume you did set your tool length offset to the center of the ball?
  18. We cut some 17-4 mold cavities a while back. 3 flute 30 degree worked pretty well. We did have them coated though
  19. You are going to have a lot of problems. The heat of the chips and cutter itself may melt or burn your substrate. rigidity is going to be a MAJOR concern unless you have a pipeline to free cutters. I don't know if you can get your speeds and feeds to a usable point without running out of torque. Steel is not aluminum
  20. We use the following as a starting point .375 dia 20,000rpm 160/200ipm .312 dia 25,000rpm 200ipm .250 dia 30,000rpm 240ipm .187 dia 35,000rpm 280ipm .125 dia 40,000rpm 320ipm .093 dia 45,000rpm 360ipm based on using diamond coated carbide our spindle maxs out at 45,000 for smaller cutters we decrease feed rate
  21. He prolly has a cracked version of X My thoughts exactly
  22. Chin up ruger2, learning all the tricks and quirks of trimming surfaces is one of the real JOYS of Mastercam.
  23. When working on molds, patterns, etc. I will assign the top block to level 10 center to level 20 bottom to 30 etc, etc, than within each levelset i will put wireframe on 11 surfaces on 12 solids on 13 and so on. I leave 150-250 for library items, boundries etc.
  24. Sorry, some human intervention still required.
  25. Which would be the later release MR0304 or SP2?
