OT NC Editor

I use Cimco editor.

I installed cimco onto a shop floor PC for the guys. Cimco wont run it looks for a Mastercam Hasp.

So does anyone use a NC editor that is half decent that might be freeware?

 

I just need it for easier viewing of NC code for the shop floor any thing better than Notepad would be nice

If you have an old Version 8 CD laying around, the CIMCO Editor then did not require a HASP.

 

But you didn't hear that from me.

I don't think so. I run it by itself without hasp at home once (forgot to take hasp with me). It's an executable file just like cimco. Give it a shot, i think it should work.

 

Update:

I just removed my hasp to verify and don't see any problems so far.

I just tried it. Mastercam Editor runs without

a HASP just fine.

I just hope CNC Software keeps it that way. It sure could come in handy on the shop floor...

I copied the whole folder c:mcamX/editors/common/mastercam to a PC that has no Mastercam installed on it and when I try start the editor it says can't find path to mastercamX

can you install mcx then take the hasp out and put it back in your programming comp then just use the editor on the shop floor comp.

Tryed no go.

 

I don't want to go and load mcamx into 8 Pc's on the shop floor just so I can use the editor.

 

Seems the editor only works if Mcamx is installed on that PC.The Mastercam editor works still when HASP is removed.

 

Cimco only works with a Mastercam Hasp too. Unless its an early version.

There is a zip file MCEd on MCX installation cd. Might want to give it a shot...

Also pfe is a decent editor, especially if you don't need to communicate with machines...

Because X did not come with Cimco I copyed a V9 Cimco into C:McanX/common/editors.

 

Both Mastercam and Cimco run without my HASP in.

But not on PC's with out Mastercam installed.

I use Cimco from V9 in McamX.

V9 Cimco will not work with out a Mastercam HASP.

Mastercam editor which comes with X only works if you have Mastercam installed on that PC hasp or no hasp.

 

To run Cimco I installed a V8 cimco onto non Mastercam PC's.Thanks James

Glad you got it going.

Checked MC 7 and 8 install discs before I left work and there was no separate cimco install on any of them (I'd have to install the whole thing...). Glad somebody had a copy for you

Definitely, once you did use Cimco Edit and discover all the possibilities that it offer (or at least 30% of them), is very hard to leave it.

 

Cimco is one of the most powerful drugs of CNC programmer´s world.

I use an editor called UltraEdit. It's designed for software programmers. I have created several macro's in it without even looking at the online help. In fact, I wrote a macro to change the code output from the generic Fanuc post to run on our machines instead of paying for a custom post.

 

I also use it with a text based CAM system called Genesis which is about 30 years old so for text I highly recommend it.

 

It's only about $40 too and they give you a free trial version to check out. I bought the ultraedit/ultracompare bundle for $60.
