Solidworks 2006

I am using Mastercam 9, I need to open a Solidworks 2006 model drawing into Mastercam. Which converter should I use?

File-Converters-.sldprt (or similar).

 

EDIT: Just wondered if the old converter will convert a 2006 file. If not, maybe you can write out a parasolid?

I think an earlier post addressed V9 being stuck on version 2005 for SW. better off with a .stp (step) file.

You are correct I believe, mc9 is stuck at sw2005 you can also use a parasolid to get a part into MC9

 

Just make sure you output it as I think a parasolid 13, might be 14, you'll have to double check.

The converter for Solidworks.SLDPRT did not work. I was able to open the drawing with Parasld X_T and IGES. Which one would you recommend using? Is there any advantageous between the two.

Parasolid will give you solids. IGES will give you surfaces. I LOVE Parasolids and so does Mastercam (usually)...

Should I use parasolid X_T or X_b not sure if it matters?

x_t is the way to fly

 

To roll back your parasolids version, click, save as, set to .x_t, click the options button and then use the "output as" pulldown to set the desired version.

 

A 13 will work for V9, I am unsure whether a 14 will.

Thank you, I will use X_T. I was going to try STEP but never used them. I will stick with Parasolid.

I haven't found much difference between a parasolid X_T and X_B.

X_B's are usually a little smaller and open a little quicker.

You can open an X_T with a text editor and read it

(not that it makes any sense to me)

I have never noticed one format doing a better job than the other so I guess it really makes no difference which you use.

Are U Using Mastercam Direct?

 

I Use The Mastercam Direct From Solidworks And Have Found That It Blows Up On Me 1 Out Of Every (100 Times +/- A Few). I Import With The "Feature-less brick" Instead Of Import Operations. This Seems To Work.

If you have the solids options I open parasolid files all the time and its always comes in as surfaces. I get a lot better results with parasolids then I do with iges a lot less dirty entities that need to be cleaned up.
