Hi Guys.

I can't seem to open solidworks files in X.

Any Ideas why? The seat next to me can.

Do you receive any error messages? Are you running MR2? Do you have SW 2006? You may need to un-register and then re-register the SwDocumentMgr.dll file using the Mastercam X utility in the control panel.

PROBLEM

Can't open Solidworks file with MCAM X, they don't show up in window.

 

CAUSE

Windows is not reading entire file ext.

 

SOLUTION

Open a folder, open tools, open folder options, pick view, go down to Hide extensiions for known file types and make sure it is not checked.

I found that going into a folder, any folder and clicking on tools >> flder options >> file types >> scroll down to .sldprt >> click on the advanced button >> and make sure the show file extension always is checked.

 

Also if you're trying to open SW2006 files into V9 , that is not going to work

Hi. I did all of the above but no luck the error it gives me is

"Cannot find Parasolid data in Solidworks file"

To the best of my knowledge, this has been corrected in MR2.

The site tells me it can't find the server to download MR2.

If you have constant trouble downloading, have your reseller send you a CD. That's my preferred method to install Mastercam.

Look closely at the solidworks file extention. Is it ".sldprt " or does it read something like ".sld " ?

 

Just a thought.

Do a "repair" install for Solidworks if ya haven't allready , re-boot , and try again. If I remember correctly , that's what I did when I had that problem.

Its not Solidworks. Two other seats of MC open them fine. Their using "X" as it first came out. I've got MR1. I'll have to get a disk from our reseller for the MR2 version. I can't seem to download it.

Thanks for all the help guys. I downloded MR2 on another system and sent it to myself. Loaded it and all is good. (Mind you, I'm still going to use Ver 9 and only when need be use "X")

Not for me.

I like 9 better. Its Quicker. If anyone say

they work faster in X, there fibbin.

Our Office Manager has said she's given up leaving messages at his company asking if they want to send anyone to our Transition to X class. I guess there's just no convincing some people. More and more of our customers are making the switch and eventually 3.82 will find himself falling behind. We have our sucess stories, like John Paris, to show those who are reluctant to use the new stuff.

If you can avail yourself to the day, go.

 

It's not quite as foreign as it appears once you understand the hows and whys.

 

Myself, I've had some quirks and bumps along the way but nothing has hung me up. I can not even use V9 effectively any longer. I suppose it wouldn't take a long time to "revert" but the quickie stuff is very painful.

I'm faster drawing in X than I was in 9. Not by a huge factor but significant enough to be worthwhile. When I have to go back to 9 I just groan because I feel like I'm taking a step backwards. So many things I like more about X now...

The only reason I have V9 loaded is X seems to have a little problem opening old version 7 programs. I just open them in 9. Save them. Then open them in X.
