512 Mb with Mill 3

I am running mill level 3 and only have the minimum amount of required of memory, 512 Mb. I do quite a bit of complex 3d parts and was curious what everyone else is running and if more memory would help with crashes and processing time.

2.8GHz

2 gig here. I would not run anything less that 1 gig if doing any 3d much less complex 3d work.

2 GB here also. Memory is cheap, what is the max for your computer?

4 GB on the new one. 2 GB on the old one...never ran into a toolpath Mastercam wouldn't process with the old one. 2 GB is plenty for MC in my opinion.

 

Other software had issues as the size and complexity grew with the old one though.

 

Graphics on large solids gets some lag, but the RAM doesn't make much difference on those.

2 GB here also, with crashes almost never. As Steve said, memory is cheap, I would max it out or go to at least 2 GB.

Set up per signature and rarely have a crash. I work on complex mold surfaces everyday using the new HST's and wouldn't look back.

I run a gig at home and 2 gigs at work.

 

I really need to upgrade the home machine to 2 gigs.

 

 

I can't imagine performance on anything but ultra simple work would be any good on 512k

 

Simple wire frame and flat 2D stuff might be ok but even moderately complicated wireframe, surfaces and solids would be kill that machines performance and quick too.

if you're going machine surfaces like more than 100 surafces at a time, cutting tolerances getting tighter than 10 microns.... 512 will really affect your work...like making it really slow and frustrating... we got a lot HP workstation with 512 MB, they run... but real sloooooooooooow....

and it also affects how Mastercam handles stl files, like using them for verify or for restmill toolpath...sloooooooow

we had a 80 meg assembly igs file and the 512 PC froze trying to convert it. the 2 gig PC finished the job in 20 mins..... it that enough description for you?

large dimensionally surface can also affect Mastercam performance at 512, what typical job sizes you plan to work with?

no seriously...min 1 gig to push master cam around with any good results...and an extra gig improves process time and decreases stress levels dramatically

What about the processor? I think more important than the ram because it reaches a limit where 4 gig as fast as 10n gig very small (invisible) difference

the average file size is about 15meg and as for the limit on the amount of memory for my computer I am not sure

4 gig here. Once again I agree with Ron. 1 gig would be the minimum IMHO.

768 of RAM here on 1.6 - 2.4 processors.

Ok let's take in to consideration the whole system then because it is not just about Ram or the Processor!
