Anyone know anything about a yasnac controller on a cnc lather?

This is an older model mori seiki (forgive the spelling). Could anyone give me some ideas on how this works? A friend of mine bought this machine with no prior experience with this type controller. When he pushes cycle start in MDI with a command that moves the machine, it does nothing.

 

 

I would appreciate any input.

We just retired and LX3, what do you need to know.

 

Also if you do a google on Yasnac, their manuals are available online.

g01 x0 y0 f20.;

could it be somthing like no semi colin at the end of the block or feed isnt turned up on the pulse generator.

just trying to help sometimes it can be somthing simple

He has a manual from the internet. He has a sample program which it is using semi colons and he checked the the pulse generator all seems ok with that. It is just not reading into memory.

Make sure it doesnt have an ABS/INC button like the old

Fanuc 6m controls.

After typing in the MDI Command I think you'll need to press thew WR key

 

 

That should write it in.

you could try changing

g01 x0 y0 f20.;

to

g98 g01 x0 y0 f20.

 

i know on a fanuc you have to change it from inchs a rev to inchs a min if the chuck is not on.

Is the tailstock key on?

Chuck clamped?

is it a feed move without the spindle on?

try this set mode knob on MDI

 

press RUN key

 

type a simple move like GO G90 X0 Y0;(if a mill) or GO G90 X0 Z1.0;(if a lathe)

 

hit WR button

 

now hit CYCLE START.

Make sure the spindle is running for a G01. try G00

Also, make sure that there is no door interlock on.

This might be simple, but is the Chuck jaws closed?

ok it's been about 15 years since ran a mori with a yasnac on it but for some reason this rings a bell. instead of using "x" and "z" moves maybe you need to use "u" & "w" moves. on newer machines this is incremental. i can't remember if the yasnac look at incremental moves this way or with G91. but it's worth a try.

He was given a sample program with the machine. This sample program was working before he bought the machine, now it is not working.
