Mental note to self.

 

 

Make sure you have a Class D fire extinguisher nearby. That last machine that got burned up really was "toast" after all was said and done.

Bullet,

It does catch on fire quite easily.

but, what i wanted to add is certain soluble oils contain chlorine or other substances that might erode mag, causing internal porosity.

Check with your cutting oil supplier for possible reactions.

To be safe we always use non-mineral oils as lubricant, no water. And that is not a pleasant thing for the operators.

With mag the finer the chip the more volitile it gets. Dust can be set off with a static charge. When I ran it years ago it was required that I wipe the machine down every 4 hrs.

Note if you get a lot of chips burning the dust/talc can slow it down but it creates in own oxy so it may have to burn out. I know of situations where the machine was picked up and taken outside to burn-out. I can't stress too much no water!!!! Good Luck
