High speed core roughing?

I've been trying to incorporate the high speed toolpaths into my jobs more often lately. However, I am having trouble with the core roughing. The tool will not obey my containment boundry. I have made sure it is a complete/closed chain and contain "inside" is checked with no offset distance. It is still going outside of the boundry though.

 

I would really like to use this toolpath since it seems like there are a lot less wasted moves than surface rough pocket. Can anybody shed some light on the situation for me please?

Try using surfaces as your boundry.

Core roughing is designed for "outside -in"

Area clearance is meant to stay inside.

Or offset your boundary inside 1/2 the dia of

your cutter.

Mark, one of my surfaces extends beyond the containment boundry so I can't do that. This is probably part of my problem. I was hoping it would actually contain the tool regardless of the surface, like in the old toolpaths.

 

gcode, I tried that and it cleaned it up a little but still runs out at the ends (kind of where the surface extends).

Use area clearance and set containment boundary to inside.

Yeah, I switched to Area Clearance and already had the containment set to inside. It cleaned it up a little but still ran outside. The offset did the job in the end.

That works in a few different softwares that I

have used, as well.

Are check surfaces not supported in version XMR2?

 

Is this another reason I need to upgrade to X2?

I say yes, but it is temperamental.

 

A few instances had problems and went back to

containment BND's, but for the most part it works

very well.
