Solid Modeling - Analyzing

Can I get a tip on how to analyze a solid model for weight? I design fixtures for cnc machines and I do not want to exceed the weight restrictions on the machine table. In earlier versions you could do this. Currently, I do not see a way to do this in X2 MR2 SP1.

I did this. I dont get the weight reported though. All I get is Mass, Density, Volume and Center Of Gravity.

Youll need to calculate the weight based on the material your using.

We are using cold rolled steel.

 

Is there a quick formula that you can share?

I figured as much that this would be the answer. If someone could share the formula I would be forever grateful.

.2833 lbs per sqaure inch

Take the cubic inch volume of your part and multiply it by .280 ( specific gravity ) and it will give you the weight in pounds.

Type .283 in for density. Mass = weight

I typed in .283 in for density and the result is 22.64 lbs. Is this correct?

So this .283 is specific gravity for all materials or just steel?

I've used the .2833 formula for all ms and tool steel.

For kicks I just tried converting surfaces to solids and analyzed it for volume and pretty much came up with the same results. In prior versions you could not build solids from surface geometry and analyze it for volume. I was told then that you could only analyze native solids geometry for volume. Could it be that they changed this for those of us who have never been trained in Solids?

I was just wondering how this works in metric. I guess what the density would be for say Aluminum-6061 and what units the mass is in.
