tool change

I know this is probably a simple question, but I'm still learning Mastercam. If I'm trying to contour out a fork on this part, and I want to do a roughing pass and a finish pass with two different tools. how do I make it do a tool change? Thanks.

Make the rough contour operation with a tool of one number, then make your finishing operation with a tool of different number. Your post will automatically write the tool change code.

Just select a different tool and when you post it the tool change codes will be in the program, unless i am not getting the question

I'm using two 3/8 end mills one for the roughing and one for the finish pass, and then I'm using a 1/4 end mill for a different op. and it keeps grabing one of the 3/8 and the 1/4 end mill instead of the other 3/8 end mill.

in version 9 under the "tool parameters tab" of the tool you wish to switch..theres a button there that say "change nci"

 

if you click that it there is a force tool change box you can check.... I dont know what it is in X2

same thing... In X2 it's on the page where you fill in speeds/ feeds coolant etc.. just below it click on "force toolchange"... (just above the comment field)

I used force a tool change and deleted the 1/4 end mill to see if it will grab both 3/8 end mills but no luck.

Best way IMHO if trying to use the same tool is go the Toolpath Menu then at the bottom the tool manager. Right click the tool and copy. Then change your parameters such as tool number, offset, or whatever else. Then close the tool manager go to the operation and then select the new copy of that tool with the new tool number and such, but the same tool.

even if you do 2 operations with the same tool it should ask you if you want a tool change between them when posting.
